What a bunch of baloney your dealer told you. Fuel pumps are not designed just to work on >1/2 tank of gas. Yes, <1/2 or <1/4 tank will certainly exacerbate the problem, but >1/2 tank only hides the problem. If it's working right it will work right, including 720 degrees on a skid pad with minimal fuel in the tank.
