This was no ones fault but mine. I brought the car out to the track, not prepared properly. I thought the brakes would be fine, I was wrong. We used our back-up pads on Spec Focus #2 only 2 days earlier. I just underestimated the beating the brakes would take in a 3 hour enduro. You can bet that this will not happen again.
It was "interesting" seeing the sparks coming from the left front wheel by the end of the race. I don't ever want to see that again.
After 1:20 of the race, Ryan radioed that he had lost power steering. He ran for another 10 minutes and pulled in for the driver change and refueling. What had happened was an “AN” fitting had broken in half. There was no fixing that during the race. Ted then drove for a while but pulled back into the pits, exhausted. Ryan then got back in the car and was able to finish the race. We finished 4th in our class (a class of 12).
Overall it was a fun race. Todd and Mike were a great help. Laura and Ted, which are there with us every race, were, as usual, a great help. I was practically able to just watch and enjoy the race.
By Sunday morning, all was fixed and back on the track for qualifying and the race.
The race fielded 24 cars. Ryan was in the 22nd position. At the start of the race, Ryan was boxed out and the 2 cars behind him passed him before turn 1. By the end of the race, he had passed 11 cars and finished in 12th place overall. It was exciting watching him pass 11 cars in one race.
Thanks again to Todd, Mike, Laura and Ted.
