Default Hazard switch burnouts?

Just throwing this question out there to see if anyone else has a problem like this or has heard of anything similar.

I seem to be having a problem 'burning out' the flasher... or relay... located in the hazard switch. I've owned this car for 2 years and I had this happen the first time last week. I had all the turn signals on the left side of my car stop working and traced the problem to the hazard switch. Signal was getting TO the switch, but no signal was leaving it. Not even my little green arrow on the dash lit when I hit the stalk for a left turn.

I replaced the hazard swtich with a spare I had laying around and everything worked fine again. Then on the way into work this morning, nearly a week to the day, it pops again; both sides this time. Now I'm left with no functioning turn signals and no time till this weekend to go hit a salvage yard for another hazard switch.

Is it just coincidence that this happened twice in the last two weeks? Or does it hint at a deeper problem?
