however, you CAN absolutely have an explosion with NO FIRE INVOLVED, and THAT is where the danger of having a bottle heater left on lies. if you have a bottle heater left on, the bottle pressure can rise to beyond safe levels, and the bottle can literally explode from excess pressure if the safety valve fails.

It seems to me that there was fire involved in the picture you posted by melted plastics. More to the story than you're hearing other than 'omg nitrous is scary!!!'?
