Default Re: anti rust

Painting the brake discs (not the portion that comes in contact with the actual pad) can help make things look a little "neater" or "cleaner". Instead of paint, though, why not try something a little different, and brush on some of that (gimmicky??? yes? no???) "rust converter paint"? I only say this because it's another, perhaps weird, option you can try out for the discs. Otherwise, for my discs, I painted the part that is near the wheel (that no one can really see, wow) with simple black charcoal grill paint. Lasted one Pennsylvania winter, then pretty much flaked off and is back to rust again. So be it.

I'm not sure you'll need the rubberized undercoating, but it'd be neat to see what it all looks like. As for me, I just rolled my fofo on ramps last year, took a wire brush to spots showing rust (that I could reach), then scrub, scrub, scrub-a-dee-dubbed away. Shot the bare spots over with rusty metal primer, then shot another layer of flat black paint, good to go.

Lastly, I remember reading waaay back in the day that that rubberized coating can actually (probably an Old Wives Tale, mind you) "trap moisture" and "cause rust". Credible? Reliable reporting? Nope; just something I heard--take it with a grain of salt.
