okay, i have no idea what i did, but last night i took the shock off - but didn't separate the spring from the strut cause I didn't have the right tools. Just took it off, inspected it, reinstalled making sure all bolts were good and torqued to spec. Taking it off, no bolts were even close to loose, and none seemed too tight either. Either way, after I put it back together it no longer clunks.

Like I said I don't know what I did because it went right back in the same it came out and there were no issues that I could see, feel, or hear, but now it's better.

go figure.
