Default Re: stock 16in wheels vs svt brakes

I don't believe it would cause significantly more heat buildup, BUT, if there is LOTS of HEAVY Braking on the course, you want as little heat as possible. I have screwed up some front wheel bearings at the track, and when I opened them up to replace them, it was obvious that the bearing grease had been ruined. I had had a TINY Bit of fade for about a quarter lap at VIR Full, and I was on Hawk HP+ pads at that particular session. Other than that brief moment, the brakes were great all weekend. (Standard brakes... Non-SVT)
It seemed that the wheel bearings took as much heat abuse as the brakes.
Granted, there is an issue with the OEM wheel bearing nuts which can contribute to bearing failure due to heavy track use, but I feel fairly confident that my first front wheel bearing failure was ALSO due to heat. The next time I went to the track, I had home-made cooling ducts run from behind the lower grille back to the rotor area. Not the best design, but it was all I could do on a budget. On that weekend I had Carbotech XP-8 (or XP-9? I forget) pads, and I had no problems whatsoever.
