Default Baer Rear Brake System for SVT?

Will the Baer rear brake kit that you guys offer fit the SVT? I would love to upgrade my front rotors to the 13" kit, but would like to have bigger rear brakes as well and brakes that match. Is it possible and if so what modifications would have to be done if at all?

Baer designed the rear disk upgrade from a regular focus with drum brakes. You would need to convert your rear brakes to the drum setup before you could install the Baer rear brake upgrade on your car.

Our rep at Baer said you can also modify the stock SVT caliper mounts to make clearance for Baer components but if you don't want to modify your stock components then you would need to find rear drum brake components from a donor car.

So is there any other company that offers a front and rear big brake kit for the SVT?

Their aren't any vendors that make rear brake upgrade kits that utilized the stock SVT components. TCE offers a rotor upsize for the SVT but it utilizes the stock SVT caliper.

Now something to consider about rear break upgrades. If you go to a bigger front caliper and then upgrade in the rear as well, you will most likely find your master cylinder is unable to create enough clamping force to either caliper and your stopping power will degrade.

So in short, if you do upgrade your front and rear calipers to something bigger, but do not upgrade your brake master cylinder your car will stop much worse than before and will be borderline dangerous in fast situations.

MC to caliper compatability is not based on how larger your front or rear brake system is directly. It's bases on piston areas. And not the number of them either.

You could build a rear 13" kit and run small bore calipers. If (by luck maybe) you managed to properly bias this to a larger front kit you'd be fine.

However it IS fair to say that adding more piston area will effect MC feel and response. More area makes for a longer pedal and eventually you may reach a point of not enough displacement.

For this reason I choose to do the rotor only. Why? For one it's all about the look- the car doesn't need more rear brake. Secondly it keeps a stock caliper with parking brake and piston area. When paired with a correcty designed front kit this balances the two ends of the car.
