Default Re: PRODUCT FAQ: SVT Billet DSI Intake Manifold Clip

this gonna sound silly but...

what's the proper method for removing the plastic DSI clip off the manifold and the cable from teh clip?

does the cable just pop off or do I gotta squeeze something first?

The cable pops off fairly easy but it will not pop off unless you rotate the DSI clip at least 45 degrees. The reason being is that the cable is out all the way when then car is off so you have to turn the DSI to give the cable some slack for it to pop off. After you pop the cable off you will then need a small screw driver to carefully pry the stock DSI clip off .

OK, I did the swap and everything is still working normally. My original DSI lever was not broken, but I prefer preventative maintenance.

I would like to make one suggestion: Can the original locking clip be replaced with a C- or E-clip? That POS clip is a real pain in to put on.

hell yeah it is, I just put mine on this weekend and it's definitely a pain. I jacked up the first one that came with the kit but found out a pretty easy way to get it on............get a really small socket (smallest you can get that will still let the stub of what the DSI clip bolts on to go through, I think I used a 6mm) put the DSI clip on, then just rest the "O" shaped retainer on the stub, rest the socket on top of the retainer and give it a little tap tap tapperoo............go to your home, are you too good for your home? It's all in the hips.

Yeah that's what I ended up doing, too. A c-clip would've been worlds easier, though.

Hey Jetsteers,
I just tried to install this item and boy, what a PITA to get the thing to line up on the pivot. I didn't get to finish because the hole for the pivot was tooooo tight of a fit. Sooo I'll try to use some fine files to get it to fit better. I must say though the item is of great quality and a bargain too. Thanks C-F-M for making this item for us SVTF owners.......Bob

You shouldn't have to file it. Try pushing it a little harder. The fit is really tight and this was done purposely to avoid any premature wear. Unfortunately those were the only retainers we could find close enough to the right size. We are going to start including c-clips instead which will be easier to work with.

Use a soft mallet. If you move the shifter counterweight towards the driverside fender it will give you enough swinging room to tap it on. Filing is bad.

The old socket trick is the way to go - I've put on a million star clips using that one. It's easy.

Yeah, it takes a million tries to make it easy. C-clips are the way to go.

Ah, yes - among the few advantages of age - those million tries (or however many it took to get good at it) are all many years in the past...

UPDATE: I recently bought a new DSI clip and the star retainers are gone. I got the C-clips. We'll see how it goes this weekend!

I bought one of these billet DSI clips in the first production batch, just for safe keeping. I still haven't installed it and the c-clip sounds like the way to go.

Can I get a C-clip or two from you guys? Or tell me if Home Depot has them and what size?

Thanks!
