Default Clutch Masters FX400 (Stage IV) Clutch

I've been looking on your website and I see this clutch comes with a 4 puck ceramic disc, I've been told that a 6 puck would be better and I was wondering if I could have this instead of the 4 puck.

If I could could you tell me the price increase please.

Thanks Glenn

It would cost the same. We would just need to order the 6 puck version for you from CM. Takes about 5 business days to get in-stock.

Once the clutch has been fitted how does the clutch pedal feel? Is it very hard or is it like the original clutch?

The clutch pedal is not hard. I would say little stiffer than stock. The main thing that changes is the engagement point. The amount of clutch pedal travel also changes before it will engage. The clutch does engage harder than stock.

Does it engage sooner or later?

Definately engages sooner and a bit harsher. Pedal feel when installed correctly could very well feel lighter. I've heard different stories from different people.

But it is definately not a "hard" pedal and very liveable. The engagement is what is toughest about this clutch. For stop and go traffic it could prove a bit hectic. Other than that scenario it's not bad at all for a daily driven vehicle.

Would a stage 3 be a better choice for a daily driver or a completely different clutch set up? like a spec stage 3, 3+ or 4 ???? what do you get with the spec clutch, do you get a new slave cylinder like you do with the clutchmasters clutch?

Clutchmasters Stg IV is the same as Spec Stage III. How much power do you plan on putting down? That's the key really.

With the spec and the CM clutch from CFM you will get everything you need. Bearing and Slave Cylinder.

Thanks Glenn

What type of setup is this going to be?
Turbo, Supercharger?

If it's a turbo, then you'll definately want to stick with a Spec 3 or CM 4.
If it's a supercharger you can go one step down to a kevlar pad disc. The kevlar disc will last alot longer and will be a "bit" easier in day to day driving. Just make sure to break in the clutch properly.

What about a 270whp 220wtq procharger, what clutch would you reccomend?

Same as listed above. You can choose to use a ceramic pad disc (stage 3 for spec or stage 4 for CM) OR you can choose to use a kevlar disc (stage 2 for spec stage 3 for CM)

Superchargers dont pack the mid-range torque slam that turbo's do. The torque build is definately linear.

My personal preference is to shy away from Kevlar pad clutches due to the inherant issues with bad break in. Kevlar pads can get cooked quickly if a user is not careful during their break-in period. When done right, kevlar holds great and lasts a long time, plus slipping the clutch in for day to day driving is a tad easier.

But the ceramic padded clutches aren't that different. Slightly shorter lifespan but not a susceptible to damage during an improper break-in.

With that said, ALWAYS break in your clutch properly

With proper break in, how long do you think each one would last.

This is with normal driving but seeing a drag strip maybe twice a month.

Glenn

I have the Stage IV clutch with a Fidanza flywheel in Evilbat. Not ideal in slow moving traffic, but the ovrall feel is better than the stock items I did have.

I have Just ordered one of those but with the cm aluminium flywheel. Thought it would be better to be safe than sorry.
