Gauge Install?

I got the white faced gauges for my 06 zx3 and i cant get the needles right. I do as the instructions say and try to twist my temp and fuel needle to what they were before. An idled warmed up engine is about 1/4 of the way up the temp gauge and I had a bout a 1/4 of a tank of gas. When I go to set these and turn the car off. Then I turn the car back on they shoot up. I cant do the speedometer yet because I didnt wanna drive it cause it is about 2 am and need some rest. any help would be appreciated. thanks
