1 week after CFM adj STS, wont go in reverse

Well i installed my adjustable CFM STS last monday night. Took the car out once last night to the store, backed out the driveway and out of the spot at the store no problem. drove home and parked it. This morning went out and it would NOT go into reverse worth a damn. Figured maybe it was cuz it was cold out and the car needed to warm up more. waited 10 minutes still nothing. so me on my damn crutches and casted foot rolled the car back a little to drive over my lawn to leave the house, interesting ordeal.

The car only has 22k on it and still has a warranty til next month and 24k. so if this might be an internal problem ill bring it back to the dealer, but if its shifter related ill fix it myself.

on the way to work i tried multiple times and it wouldnt go in reverse either. when i got to work it FINALLY went in but didnt go in easy, it sorta clunked when it went in.

i noticed its harder to get into reverse because the shortness of the shifter but never had a problem actually getting it in, just needed a little more effort.

Well, I'm not sure how the SVT is, but on my '00 I had to re-install the shifter a few times. I couldn't get the left-to-right return spring to seat correctly, it was getting sandwiched between the shifter base and the swing arm. Once I got that spring figured out the shifting was SO much smoother. I'd tell you to just go over the install one more time, it doesn't take very long to do (I can do it in like 30 mins tops).

If that doesn't help anything then there's a how to on focushacks.com that shows you how to re-center your shifter cables. Might want to give that a look, but again, I'm not sure if it applies to the SVT or not.

Oh, while you're at it, check to see if your shifter base has cracked. Most STSs for the SVT will include a metal top brace or something, because the SVT base has been known to break from time to time.

the metal piece it comes with is actually a spacer that goes under the shifter.

but i suppose ill check everything over again

ok, ill give that a shot today, funny it says about 6th too. itll go into 6th but with a little more effort than before

for anyone interested. the fix wasnt quite as easy as pushing it in and the cable adjusting itself where it needs to be. the slide can be moved to the pass or driver side with a few clicks. we first tried to the pass side and reverse worked but i lost 5 and 6. moved it to the driver side 2 clicks and i have all gears now. although the shifter feels a little sloppier than before(but thats expected since i gained full movement back, but tons better than stock.)

and both "buttons" were orange on my trans like the 5 speed. not white and black like the directions say. the button needing adjustment was very high up too

This happened to my ZX3 and it turned out some of the screws in the back came out a bit, but screwed them back in and everything worked out fine.

I'm dealing with the same problem right now, my wife wanted to test out the new STS so I told her to go to the store. 5min later she comes running in upset, thinking she broke my car. I'll try to fix it tomorrow.
