Default Any reason to switch to 2.3?

I sold my Thunderbird SuperCoupe becuse it had close to 185,000 mile on it, and recently bought a 2001 yellow ford focus,
i have done AEM CAI, Borla exhaust, and plugs, and look to do some major mods like turbo, head package and other things in the near furture. I saw the article in the last SCC about toms car and how it ran low 13's, and remembering reading other posts about him running 12's. with all the talk about the new engine that is being put in the focus, is there any real reason to save for a new focus in order to become faster. I know the present Zetec is good engough to run 12's and 13's, but could the new engine run any faster? I know the new engine will run faster stock. Is there any reason to upgrade if you look to make serious mods on the Zetec?

Good question, and please let me add mine.

Will the 2.3 have greater gains from non FI mods than the 2.0 Zetec? And, will the 2.3 be able to sustain high HP with less wear than the 2.0?

big deal 1000hp at 70PSI and running ethanol, that is pretty close to running straight Nitros Oxided. Where as Tom is running 378 HP with 24psi stock block, stock cams, stock computer, and with i think he said 100 octane fuel. Just put a 150 shot of nos and get a larger turbo and run 45 psi and you would be really close to those numbers.
Persoally other then the wide range of vehicals using the engine, the only benifit is the extra injector. But if you plan on many mods after a certain point of power a front wheel drive car does not get any faster. Take for example there are many powerful SOHC Vtecs that could keep up with similar moded DOHC Vtecs. The only diffrence is the amount of power that comes from the factroy

You must of seen this but Tom is now running 436fwhp and 386fwtq with more boost and the bottle,On the same stock everything you mentioned Mr.Zetec. But as Tom stated the Cams are starting ti hurt him now and to me looks like will need new ones before he can go any higher. The Duratec though is a better block then the Zetec b/c it was designed by Cosworth and had something to do with F1 I do believe or something around those lines.
