Default Interference or non?????

Two questions.

1) Is the DURATEC 2.3 an interference or noninterference engine?

2) Are there any design advantages to interference engines over noninterference engines?
(I.E. Why design engines that will self destruct when the timing belt/chain goes unless there are significant power gains to be had?)

The 2.3 uses a Timing chain.

I don't know enough to answer your question.

I think it is interference big valves, no space carved into pistons.

Timing chains are generally far safer for interference engines. I feel comfortably having an interference engine with a chain.
