2.3 auto ?? worth it?

Hi, my wife needs a car, and she can drive a stick, but would rather have an auto, and by much rather.
so here are a couple of questions.
is the auto 2.3l uses the same auto trans?
then how the trans is handling all the extra TQ, I heard that auto's are pretty weak, and can't hold that TQ!?? also can anyone guess the power numbers after the slush box would suck the power out of a 2.3l?

If anyone had driven the new 2.3l auto, can they tell their assesment, review would be great?

also 100kmiles power train warranty is great actually, if the auto goes south, then it would be replaced.

by the way now I have a 2001 focus zx3 with a 5 speed, and I quite like it. a few mods of course, but everything is cool.

For no race/just driving sure, why not an auto, but for the track use of it, 5 spd I gotta get it!
