I hope you're right naz, cuz then thd s2000 and its claim to 120 bhp'L can eat my ass <img scc="/ubbthreads/amages/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> and we'll have enough torque to ctomp it into the ground&

Well, I emailed them, this is the the response:
Thank you for your enquiry about the Duratec Cylinder Head that Cosworth is developing as a performance after-market part. For your information, this head is going to be part of a performance upgrade kit of parts that Cosworth is developing. The kit will include the head, 'Power By Cosworth' inlet manifold, inlet/exhaust cams, larger valves, valve springs, forged piston and connecting rods as well as a recalibration of the existing ECU. Whilst the kit is still very much in development, we aim to achieve 100bhp increase over the standard engine without resorting to forced induction and the increased weight of a turbo/supercharger. The kit of parts is still being developed and as such is not currently available. We aim to launch the upgrade kit (in conjunction with Ford) at the International Auto Salon (2-4 April 2004, Los Angeles Convention Centre) at which point we will be taking orders through Cosworth Racing Inc at the following address: Cosworth Racing Inc. 3031 Fujita St Torrance CA 90505 Tel 310 534 1390 In the meantime you will be able to see some of the development parts on show on Cosworth's stand at the Performance Racing Industry Show next month. Alternatively, please keep your eye on our website, for further details as they become available. Best Regards, Simon Danton Commercial Manager - Sales Cosworth Racing Ltd Tel +44 1604 598650 Fax +44 1604 598656 www.cosworth.com <http://www.cosworth.com> |

Whats amazing about that 100bhp estimate/goal, is that it is probably attainable.
![]() I just wonder what a kit like that will cost? $2000-$3000 more than likely. But not a bad price considering the gains.... Nikolas |

I wonder if it will work with the PZEV version. The ECU upgrade might cause problems with the govt. etc. They might just have it for the non-pzev version in 05.

lol you guys have no idea what you have in store for you 2.3 people, fortunately I do, and it actually makes me want to swap a 2.3 and ditch the turbo and do NA because i am fortunate enough to know what is about to come, and cosworth is gonna have some nice toys for you, as well as other here locally in the states
Lets just say 300hp will be easily achievable with the right parts, NA, and thats awesome |

I love the fact that we are going to be able to produce power n/a. The zetec guys are having nightmares trying to get 200hp. This engine is quite a little beast.

I'll believe it when i see it...but it certainly sounds sweet! 250bhp would be sweet though, something like 200whp n/a would be about what i'd want to put down at the maximum in a fwd...maybe if i win the lottery or something i'll invest in the cosworth parts. I'll stick to bolt ons until then

The next questions would be is the 100bhp package going to be streetable. I would have to lean towards, "no". I will assume the forged pistons raise the CR and the combination of CR, Cams, and CPU tweaks, will require much higher than 93 octane to run. Hopefully they releases different levels of these "bolt-on" packages that daily driven vehicles can use.

Yeah - I too was thinking that the drivability on a 100hp head upgrade package wouldn't be the best unless you were hammering on it all the time. With that much power under the right foot, there's no way you could safely do that so...
It does seem great that there's some really cool stuff on the horizon though. I can tell you that I'd much rather build up a normally aspirated beast than fiddle with any kind of compression. I'm all for tuning a car that starts out as a turbo, but building one up that has no turbo to begin with doesn't much interest me. >8^) ER |

The way i see it, if it goes through, it'll basically turn into the s2000 eninge. It's believable, and possible...but would low 14's be worth $3000 to someone?

you would be putting down mid 13's easily with that... maybe even low...

The cost on this is going to be way up there I suspect. Rods, pistons, head, cams, valvetrain, intake manifold, re-working everything (including the ECU)... And that's before the labor to install it all (either your own or paying someone to do it -- including pulling the engine out of the car if the cylinders need any bore work done
).So 145 HP (or so stock, right?) plus 100 HP minus 10%-20% driveline loss (pick your favorite number) is anywhere from 200 to 225 HP at the wheels? Probably more cost effective for me to keep my '00 ZX3 and get a decent turbo kit and tuning to make that kind of power. Probably more torque with a turbo too.Still, glad to see that Cosworth is taking interest in something aftermarket that's relativley consumer-grade. Hopefully this is just the first step to getting some sort of Focus Cosworth from the factory from Ford NORTH AMERICA. |

My quick cost-benefit analysis tells me sticking to i/h/e and pulley for the high 14 and 160-165 whp is the best combo for me. After that things get too damn pricey. I'm curious to see how cams will be for this thing still. Those that want to sink their bank accounts into the focus, I'm excited to see where you get this thing.

[non-related info]
I talked to Crower at SEMA and they said they're working on some cams for the new motors. [/non-related info] |

Working on engines are easy, it's just time consuming. I'd actually rather do work on the stock head and see what kind of gains would come out of that instead of forking over money paying for a name. There's already high compression pistons. All that's needed now are hotter cams and bigger valves. I'll write COSWORTH on your valve cover with magic marker for $500 if that's all that matters.
