You will have to tune for different injectors and the MAF sensor.

I think this list needs to be updated. Some of the links don't work anymore due to (I think) the software swap .

Okay, so is the final drive ratio on my 2005 ZX3 3.82 or 3.42? marcy says 3.82 near the bottom of the first post, and egz says 3.42...which is it?

I think Egz was talking about pre-05 Duratecs when he said 3.42. Your '05 should have a 3.82 gearset.

Wait, what do you mean pre 05'? In what time frame did the change happen ?

Wait, I'm confused now. As I understand it:

'03 and '04 Duratecs have 3.42 gearsets
'05 and up Duratecs have 3.82 gearsets

Is that right?

What I thought was that they changed it to 3.82 mid 05' for some reason .

You're right pitchblack23

That excites me. Now I won't worry about a gear change...I'll just run 205/50/15 drag radials...shorter tire (makes my effective gear ratio somewhere around 4.02) and better traction = better times.

Does anyone know what the complete 2.3 Duratec weighs? I'm just curious for a future project.

Mmmm I can't give you any info quickly but I could try to work on this for you. I have a spare engine with transmition still attached sitting on a pallat. If I could find a suitable scale I might be able to get a measurement.

They are only between 170 and 205 lbs depending on if you have an a/c compressor, ect ect bolted onto them.

Very light.

Huh? I don't think so. Pretty sure the part numbers are the same.

The Duratec 20 and Duratec 23 used in the American Focus are built by Ford in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico.

The engine was inspired by the Mazda MZR design. Esentailly the design is a Mazda design. However, Mazda's Duratec 20 utilizes VVT (variable valve timing) and can be found in the Mazda MX-5, Mazda 5 and in Europe in the Mazda 6. Mazda's Duratec 23 used in the Mazda 6 in the U.S. also uses VVT producing 160 hp compared to the Focus Duratec 23 (without VVT) producing 151 hp. So while the engines are a Mazda design, Ford's versions of them (placed in the Focus and Ranger) differ from Mazda's initial design by excluding VVT.

One thing of note is that although the 2.3 crank is 11mm stroker than the 2.0's, it does not mean the block is 11mm taller. I have measured and found that 2.3 block is in fact around 25mm taller. The difference comes from longer rod in a 2.3.
