True.

Ford's Covered Parts Manual lists covered components by their base part number, then uses a standard description for that base number that may not be 100% accurate for every vehicle/engine. The manual does not provide an engine-by-engine breakdown, but it does include a separate column for the Focus PZEV.

The base part numbers are generally consistent for every engine even though the description may not always seem applicable to a given engine. But the manual lists no base numbers as being covered for the afore mentioned internal engine parts for any PZEV engine/vehicle.

I can't comment on the two engine replacements you referenced since I'm by no means an expert on Ford's warranty - although I can read their policy and it's very clear the base engine is not coverered. Without knowing the details behind these replacements, it would appear the dealer(s) may have possibly been "creative" with their warranty claim to take care of a customer (friend?) and stick Ford with the bill. Of course I can't say for a fact that's definitely what happened - but we all know these games (thefts) do take place.

That's a rather strong conception of events, but I know for sure that neither customer had any "prior personal relationship" with any employee of either dealership, so that rules your scenario incorrect.

Let's put this discussion on hold for now, shall we? ...until more pertinent facts regarding the PZEV emissions warranty and what it does indeed cover are discovered.

Will these suffice as more pertinent facts? Ford's base part numbers for engine components are in the 6000 series.

Sure... throw some 2003 and 2004 model year info in there while you're at it.

Might even stick this stuff into Duratec FAQs later.

Glad it helped, Z63R.

There's probably not a heck of a lot of difference between the model years, so I'm not sure it's worth hunting down these charts for every model year. Keep in mind that I only printed off the two pages addressing base engine parts. There are an additional 6 pages of covered components that I didn't include.

Ok today I filled up about a mile and a half after my gas light came on and was able to put 10.6 gals in it. It did actually surprise me that I was able to get more than 10 gals in it, but that still would mean that I have almost a 4 gallon reserve, and when I'm able to put over 11.5 gals in it the needle is frightening low. Maybe thats a saftey feature to keep you from running out of gas but that seems weird. My friend had a 2000 Ranger with a 3.0 v6, and he says he had a 4 gal reserve, but with a 19.5 gallon tank.

Okay, I drove with the fuel light on for 3 days. Topped of to 3 clicks like every time. Guess how much fuel I put in ('03 PZEV)...

14.877 gallons

Either I was completely on fumes and I just filled the tank and neck (never starved or stumbled), or the stations pumps are wacked. BTW, I almost flipped when I put $53, then $55 of fuel in my car last month. This time, $64.25

14.0 gallon for 2005 models.

There ya go:

I drove 25 miles or so after the low fuel warning and it took 11.5 gallons, so there was about 20% left, although the fuel pump is cooled by fuel, tapping into the last two gallons of gas on regular basis might stress the pump.

2005 - Wanted to see how far it goes: 14.007 gallons to the first click from "stalled an unable to restart" empty. 52x miles on that tank!

You hear all kinds of stuff on what you can and can't do, but I've run E85, E33, E22, E20, E10 and I always run the tank until the light comes on. 78K and no issues - YMMV.

I do have data logs that show fuel heats up as the tank level degreases, so that is real. In these days of food/fuel shortages or from a disaster preparedness standpoint, it would be best to refill to the first click from half a tank.
