My zx3 didn't come with a tach either, so I bought a stock gauge cluster that had a tach built into it, and it hooked up perfectly. No additional wirring was necessary. The only downside is that the odometer doesn't adapt to your cars mileage. You can send it off to get it recalibrated, however I've heard it takes about 3 weeks, and if you drive your car in that time it will still be off some. But still I think that having a stock tach will look better than an after market one sitting on the dash.

6750 rpm

Yes, you need a tach adapter.
No, if you decide to wire it to the Coil-On-Plug.

There may be another way to wire it up, but I am not sure.

The non-SVT focus does not have a redline. The rev limiter is set at 6750 from the factory.

You will need a tach adapter to hook up a aftermarket tach.

That light is for fuel economy. Don't pay attention to it for hard driving.

That light seems to come on very early even for econimic shifting. If I shift right when it comes on it'll be below 1,500 rpms, and the engine will make a stressing sound.

at wot on my 07 st the shift light comes on at 5k. and mine does not have a red line on the factory tach. easiest thing for you to do, and possibly less expensive would be to find a used cluster with a tach on it.

The rev limit is based on weak valve springs. You can safely go to 7200 with tuning. With springs and rods 7500 is safe with a very max of 7800 for the 2.3L. Even higher for the 2.0L.

Does the power continue to increse at those revs?

With all the Cosworth goodies, yes.

With stock parts, no.

No point in hitting the rev limit needlessly, but you aren't going to do damage if you do. Ford has CRAZY tests for rev limits. Trust me, its not a big deal to hit it. On our cars I have hit it hundreds of times, pretty much any time I dyno. No issues.

Just don't misshift.

2nd to 1st at 7100 RPM equals eight bent exhaust vales....

...and the stock 2.3 dual-mass flywheel shouldn't be routinely taken over 7100 either. One would want a conventional, single mass unit for that application.
