It's nice to see some progress on this! I didn't know you were doing the assembly on your own. Are you measuring clearances from the pistons to cylinder walls and stuff? Or is that not necessary? No adjustable cam gears?

so exciting!

The machine shop did most of the measuring. However, they forgot to check ring gaps, so I had to measure and file down the rings myself.

The rod bearings are a bit of a pain. There is nothing to locate them in the rod, and if you install them before you tap the piston in, they tend to pop out. So I had to install them inside the block. And the rod-stretch gauge I bought from Summit Racing was absolute junk. The spring in that had to be under a pound, and could not get it to work at all. Ended up using a torque wrench instead.

Going to continue the process next week when the temperature rises. Just got my diamond washer for the crank, so the front plate can go on, and then I can hit the block with a can of high-temp clear.

And I wish I can find that throwout bearing I bought...

Ah, so the shop did most the measuring and you're able to just pop it together and save a bit on labor? What is this diamond washer you speak of? And where are you finding specs for all of the clearances, etc?

Well honestly, I was hoping they would have had the block assembled, but I didn't feel like waiting anymore, and saving money is always good.

The diamond washer goes between the crank pulley and timing cog.

Ring gap clearances were defined by Supertech. Bearing clearances are on my wiki. But since it was a new factory crank, it didn't need any work.

Ah that all makes sense. Cosworth makes those diamond washers for between the cam gear and camshaft as well.

I expect at least 4 minutes of video once she's all finished, fyi.

Mean mean build. We should have JetFest 010 at Auto Club Speedway again and you can have a rematch with the track.

Ah, half the fun is making tools.

You already are familiar with my Ford Special Tool 303-465 Camshaft Alignment Plate:

Next, using the same materials, I made Ford Special Tool 205-126 Drive Pinion Flange Holding Fixture:
[img][/img]

And finally, I made Ford Special Tool 303-103 Flywheel Locking Tool (no, this is not an Orcish weapon )

I'm such a tool. lol

Nice to see your build coming along there EGZ. I'm still waiting on my engine builder to get his arse in gear. Hoping to have a completed engine back in about a week (but if asked I'd have said that ever week for the last 4 or 5 now. )

When we both get our cars back together with the spechule engines we should meet sometime. Half way shouldn't be bad for either of us. I've never met anyone with a built up focus like ours before. Suddenly there'll be two not too far apart.

Hmmm.... not a bad idea there EGZ. Truth is I was planning on using a place called E.L.D. near BWI. Walter recommended the place to me a long time ago. Still... if you're going to be at McNews, I'd be happy to meet you over there & throw my car on the dyno... maybe fine tune things a bit.

Definitely PM me when you're ready for tuning.

Dropped the valve cover off to get powder coated. I hit with a rattle can, but didn't like how it came out. Going to try to get close to the finish on the Cosworth manifold. Speaking of which, does anyone need any black oxide bolt for the front access panel? I bough new ones to replace the rusting ones on mine, and the smallest quantity I could get was in a pack of 100. lol

Wires? What wires?

Cleaning up the wire harness some more. Next step is to get the split loom back on the first harness, and then tackle the second harness.
