What is the main difference between the 2 exhaust that makes the ST's sound better? Im wanting to use factory ford parts to make mine sound a little better. I like how the St's sounds. I work at a ford dealer ship so i can get a discount on factory parts.
Thanks for any help...

In my understading it wont do anything exept for a little sound and maybe you get rid of some of that back pressure crap... But thats it...

Which ST are you talking about the 05 ST which was the real performance ST or the 06-07 ST which is an SES with a Manual and a 2.3L Duratec?

In 06 the ST was watered down heavily, much of its "exclusive features" were lost such as the steering wheel and shift knob with red stitching. The seats with Red and black inserts along with the door panels. The suspension was made softer and the exhaust was done away with. In 07 the body colored grille was gone.
Here's an 07 ST to show proof of what I mean.

He speaks the truth. I have an 05 ST and I often get called delusional or a liar or worse for suggesting that it amounts to more than a trim level. No one who's driven it disagrees with me though. |

I have one of the very first built 05 ST's (Made early october 04) and its entirely different from the 06-07 ST's. Whats horrible is I'm going to have to get aftermarket struts to regain that stiffness I had when I had the first factory installed struts.

Mine was built in 04 as well and as it happens, I need new struts. I was thinking about getting the FRPP kit or maybe the SVT kit. I was under the impression that we had SVT dampers and springs. Was I wrong? Are the SVT or FRPP dampers not stiff enough to restore how the car felt new?

I'm thinking about SVT Struts for sure since using the new McPherson Struts that I had put on a year ago the car has no bleeding bite on the road. And they were installed by Ford. Its either that or KBT adjustable struts. Unfortunately there is no specific 05 McPherson Strut in Fords catalog. In answer to your question the ST features McPherson suspension which is double wishbone front if I remember, control blade IRS with SVT cross linkages, also Anti-Sway Bars. That's for the 05 ST only though, later ST's have that European Inspired suspension with Anti-Sway Bars.

Mine is a built date 05/04, does that make it a super early one? |

Yes like mine and Tolus we have the "bastards" of the 05 ST's. What I mean by such a term is that we have heavy combination of 04 and 05 parts. (Though I want proof that your car was built that early, as I was aware production had actually started in July of 04 for the 05 Focus Model) One thing in heavy particular I noticed was the fact that my ST had more than the 151 HP as Ford had said it was actually almost at 170 HP. Which still has my head scratching as to how it happened.

Just checked the door sticker again to make sure. Dated 05/04 and yes it's definitely an ST. I don't have my camera with me right now, if I remember this thread when I get home I will take a picture of it. I bought it in early '06, it had been sitting on the dealer lot for a long time.
I doubt mine has anywhere near 170hp though. |

You may have one of the very first issued ST's I know their production numbers were highly limited each year but I don't know the exact numbers produced. I honestly wouldn't be shocked if I had a production number lower than 80.

I hate to burst bubbles but that looks a whole lot like the build sheet for your FBR-I/PNL ASSY CHAR BLACK made at the SALINE plastics plant.
I'm guessing your dashboard was made on 5/6/04

In all essences and not to be a jackass to SVT owners but its because it's a Focus that wasn't built by Ford SVT. It was built by Ford itself using some parts of the SVT suspension. It would be nice to get ST build numbers so I can know for sure which ST is mine. Because December 14th is the Five year aniversery mark for me and my ST.
