Default How do you align the crankshaft position sensor?

The manual mentions an alignment jig, but I don't see how that aligns the sensor. Is it dead middle? Does it point at a tooth?

TY for asking, i couldn't find the answer to this either. When i order my new CPS im going to do a write up on how to set the engine to stock timing. Because the haynes manual i have doesn't really tell you the answer to this either.

I was just wondering this the other day! The mazda 3 guys move theirs to "advance" the timing.

Last time i looked at mine i think it was close or at the center.

My guess is it looks like aligns with a tooth on the gear. Thread the bolt into the crank to lock it at TDC, and then point the sensor at the tooth. Its almost dead middle of the adjustment range.

So what does the alignment tool do? Because if you look closely on the sensor, there is a black line right in the middle.. I set my black line to the edge of the tooth similar to this -_ . Thinking once they both meet the signal is sent, instead of once they meet in the middle of eachother..

Not sure if that made much sense, but can someone clarify? Or possibly a picture of a CPS setup correctly?

Is this how others are setup?

Which book to you have? I have the 6" thick Ford Service manual and am wondering if its worth digging out.
