Default Duratec high RPM timing chain tensioner mod

Anybody heard of this issue/mod before?

http://www.dubaipetrolheads.com/index.php?topic=1213.0

Came across it while searching about the rattle coming from the front of my engine(hopefully a belt tensioner-not timing chain related!).

Anyway-not that I'm revving above 7400(hopefully some day)but I wasn't aware of any duratec chain tensioner issues....

And a voice bellowed out from behind the bits, "And it shall be done."

Big cams and big tension valve springs & high rpms make this a must do.

Hah...as if your car will ever be finished...

I guess if I take mine apart again I may have to look into this just as added safety.

Well it looks like you found my website, the tensioner mod is a must do on 2.3 engines being revved above 7500 or so, as the cam chain can back lash and break the teeth on the automatic tensioner. It is a very easy mod to do, I know the guy that supplies Caterham with theirs and he does it for about $20. I am putting one in my 2.0 as well, as it seems rude not to and I plan to rev to 8500 or so on the new engine.

How many have you guys seen break? Do you have directions on how to modify yourself, or a link to where it is on Raceline's site? Also, does anyone know the intended purpose of the rachet mechanism, and why is deleteing it better than it breaking?

Oh it will. Trust me, it will be finished.

I just hate to have to undo some of my progress, and more notably, remove all that gasket material and re-caulk it again.
