Default Autometer oil pressure gauge problem

Autometer pressure gauge problem, D23
Okay so here's the deal:

I have a 2.3L Mazda3 and i have an autometer digital oil pressure gauge installed. It was installed when the Mazda had a brand new engine out in about 4,xxx miles ago. It's been working beautifully.

- last night while driving on the freeway, it started to freak out.
- symptoms: it's fluctuates like this: 33, 54, 67, 35, 58, 88 etc
- then sometimes shoots to 100 and flashes
- and sometimes it stays on "EO" or "E0"

Any ideas on what this could be? There are no leaks or wiring issues with the gauge as far as I could tell.

Also, car drives normal so I don't think anything is wrong.

Thanks!

Well.... We've had three Auto Meter sending units die in our Duratec so far.

Sending unit failure or a faulty ground.

The ground is bolted to a stock grounding location straight on the chassis, so its most likely not that.

I'll be sure to write them a nice email tomorrow about this.

...or technically less.

It is on a race-only car.

I understand that.

I'm just saying I've had reliability problems with multiple AutoMeter oil pressure sending units over short periods of time on our 2.3L Duratec.

It is just a data point, take it or leave it, it doesn't bother me either way.

Oh i wasnt mad or anything at your comment...i was just stating that even on a pretty much stock vehicle that happens so fast?

From your response and other peoples here and on the other forum, its a consensus that it's the sender failing. It's just crap to be so faulty when they advertise a 12 month guarantee on their gauges. I'll be reading their warranty today and email them to see if they can send me a replacement.

Thanks for the help g!
