I had my windows tinted last Thursday, July 1st at Auto Distinctions in Tulsa with 3M 35% tint. The owner said I would be able to roll down my windows after waiting just a day and I could wait a couple days and clean off the inside of the windows with water. Well as of Monday night, I have yet to roll down my windows and I wiped down the tint with distilled water Saturday night.
Today I washed the outside of my car and now I see craploads of bubbles all over my rear quarter windows, a few bubbles in all of my door windows, and a few bubbles in my rear window as well as a cut (a cut, NOT a scratch) in the tint in the rear window. That cut I actually noticed the same day I took my car home. These bubbles are air bubbles that have appeared in the past day or so. They are not water bubbles from the tint installation. Should I wait for a few more days, or go ahead and take my car back to the tint shop and show them the windows? I am HIGHLY disappointed in the way the windows look as I paid $235 to have my windows tinted there. I went to Auto Distinctions and paid a higher price after hearing great things about their work. After seeing my windows, I am disappointed. I am hoping the owner will be able to replace the tint but to be honest, I didn't want to have to go through an ordeal like this just for tinted windows. Is it normal to have bubbles like this appear in tint less than a week after it is installed and long after the tint has completely dried and bonded to the glass? |

tint shop here always says wait 3 days before rolling windows down, maybe a little more if its not sunny or hot. and wait a month to wash anything. ive never washed my tint though, I dont touch it so it doesnt get dirty.
they definately should be replacing it, good luck. Jon |

$235 for tint on a Focus?! I only paid $155 at Ziebart for my tint.
I had a few bubbles the day I got it done, but that was just typical from tint application, they went away by the next day. I waited 3 days before I rolled down my windows, they told me 2 days, but I went 3 just to be safe. |

I only paid $109 for my Lumar tint all around with a lifetime warranty on the tint and workmanship here in Houston. They also told me 3 days to wait to roll down the windows. The only problems I had was with the tint not sticking too well to the stupid little dots around the window but the guy showed me a way to fix it so its all good.

when i got mine done, the guy said to wait a week to roll down the windows. he also said some bubbling was normal at first, and would dissappear. i paid 150 and it came with a lifetime warranty, never had a problem. (other than getting pulled over for being too dark
)i would take it back, if its been less than a week theres something wrong. |

take that back and make them redo it.
my rear had a .25" long hair in it and i made them redo it on their dime. its a lot of money that you spent, so you deserve nothing less than perfection. |

Yeah, I know it was a lot to pay, but this place was recommended for the guys quality work. I didn't want to deal with problems with the tint so I figured this guy was the safest bet.......looks like I was wrong.
After reading about the [FJ] member who had tint removed after getting a crappy tint job and then needing to have all his windows replaced since they were scratched and ruined by the shop, I was a bit paranoid about getting mine tinted. I felt the shop's (and the owner's) reputation was good and I would get a great tint job the first time. I am going to his shop on Thursday and going to see if he will replace the tint on every window.....yes, there are many visible bubbles on every window. I'll see if I can get some pictures of them in the light so you can see what I have to deal with. |

I took my car in today to Auto Distinctions. The owner came out and looked at my tint and I showed him all of the bubbles in every window.
He said it was dust. Looks like dust got trapped between the tint and the window when it was being installed. I'm supposed to take it in tomorrow at noon and he will fix it. I'm happy but I hope he doesnt have any bad luck his second time around like he did the first time.

Please fill us unknowing in. It's "flowed on" tint. And IT'S CRAP! It's kinda old school. It was the only way that they used to be able to get a really dark tint. If you see an older car running around with badly cracked tint, that's the stuff! Avoid this at all cost! |

Well since I work for an automotive parts store... Well the one of our warehouses to be exact.. I can tell you that the demand on the spray on tint is pretty much nill... In the 3 years I have worked there we have never sent a single can to a store and after checking into the part number I have found out that we have not sold a single can in over 7 years and the stock we have on our shelves have been there for almost 10 years.... So with this being the case I think I can safetly say that you might not want to go this route....
As for the normal film tinting.. We sell the crap outta it on a constant bases..... Someone knows something and the numbers tell me to stay away from the spray tint... |

Took the car in today. They replaced the tint on all the windows. So far it looks better, but I will have to wait a few days to tell for sure.
They did mess up something though. About an inch of the rear edge on the front windows is missing tint. From the inside the entire window looks tinted, but from the outside you can see where the tint is missing. Since the channel that the window slides has a deeper lip on the inside, you can only see the missing tint from the outside. This missing tint is VERY noticable since you have a clear stripe separating the black tinted window and the black B-pillar. They were closed when I had to pick up my car so I didn't have a chance to point it out to them. Looks like I get to take my car back to them AGAIN on Monday to point out the error and hopefully they will once again replace the tint on the front doors. The first time they tinted the windows, the front doors didn't have this issue so it looks like someone wasn't being careful when they cut the tint. |

that spray on tint is the same stuff we used to darken our tailights with back in the early 90's , and it sucks for windows , it doesnt apply evenly and its best to actually lay flat until it dries , so yeah youd have ot remove all windows to eve nmake it look good . for a while in salem oregon it was the only legal way other then factory tint to have tinted windows.
as much as youve had to pay for yuor tint job , i would suggest you ask for your money back , after they remove the tint , and be there when they do it , have them clean the windows completely , and dont leave the shop until this is done to yuor satisfaction . then i would go to a different shop. this is totally ridiculous. no one should have ot go through the problems you have had with a reputable shop. airrikk17 |
