Hey Carl,

I just wanted to let you know my plate lamps are still working perfectly, as bright as the day I got them. Thank you so much for doing that for me.

The dome you converted for me has had a few drops of whatever you used to seal up the LEDs drip on the lens, I wonder if it's from the Utah sun beating down on my roof all summer long. It's hardly noticable and I'm totally happy with my dome conversion, but I figured you'd like to know.

Hit me up via email if you want, I don't really come around here anymore...

Back onto topic, though - Chris, let's see some pics! You're the first one to have my lamps fashioned with those inverse concave LEDs!

I got the LEDs and put them on and they looked awsome! I also have the tinted cover for my rear plate and while I was pulled over the other night for my exhaust being WAY to loud as the officer put it she said she was not going to write me for my tinted cover because the lights I had in it were very bright and allowed her to still see the plate but told me to take it off cause other officers might not be as nice.

SOOO looks like you saved me a ticket! ha thanks again man! I will post some pics up soon as the car is a little more finished.

frantic...awesome.

i actually had a good comment on mine also from an officer, his was more positive saying "well if you want me to see the plate that clear, i guess you really have nothing to hide". He let me go.

ahhh...such a slacka

...these are the best i could do right now, don't really know my brothers camera but i took these in my garage at 10pm without any light at all and no flash.

...and they still dont do any justice, the entire front floor is lit up, and the MOST of the rear floor is...rear bench definitely is

and this shot is at least 15ft away on my staircase in my garage...completely black, busted my leg walking over

as you can see....in both segments, my car is completely INVISIBLE, thats how dark it is...but the interior is clean white light. Its like HIDs for your interior (and with propper OEM projectors too)

like i said, doesn't do justice. the light is sooo clean and perfect. You will at first be like "holy crap, im blind"...but it only took me 2 days to get used to it, and i swear i cannot live without it now. Just the othernight i needed to pull over and find something underneath my passenger seat...no need for a flashlight, complete clarity

Damn, dude, that is really awesome! These newer LEDs really make a tremendous difference. Not to mention, for these pics, your interior color pattern presents itself nicely.

I hadn't even made myself a demo set, but just seeing how they lit up on my lab bench, I could tell there were some improvements... and this exceeded my expectations, totally.

Now, I just need the guy with the BLUE LEDs to take some pics. If the pure white looks that good, I can't imagine what the blue looks like.

Just so that you can see what I mean, here's a picture that's over a year old - with the older, narrow angled LEDs:

Just look at the spread of light on my seats versus the ones you took. On my wagon, you can see how the light doesn't cover much, and it's like a spotlight over the center console. I mean, it's still damn bright, but it doesn't spread.

And another thing that dawned on me - if you were able to take non-blurry, non-flash shots with an average camera, in pitch black darkness, I think that speaks volumes about the amount of light output.

Oh, and in the next few days, I should be covering all outstanding requests for those that have asked. Those of you waiting - Cruzin4L's pics are what you can expect to see. Thank you for your patience while I get my ass kicked at work

hey covert just put in my second set, and a word of caution, Make sure you dont have a water leak these help up amazingly considering water could go right onto them. Sealed up the problem areas and they are looking beautifull.

You could wire the LEDs in series (- to +), from one LED to the next. This would eliminate the need for the resistor in your parallel curcuit. 4 LEDs, rated at 3v each would work with your 12v supply. for some more fun, you can use dual illumination (2/3 color) LEDs.

A parallel circuit makes sure the rest of the LEDs still light up in case one goes out.

Well, I've not had a close look at a Street Appearance Focus, but if I had the chance, I might be able to take a few notes. Can't guarantee anything, though since I have all sorts of other mini projects on the back burner.

As for the side-discussion about Series vs. Parallel: How you wish to run your LEDs is your cup of tea. In this case, I use a parallel and series hybrid, because it's the simplest to layout and put together by hand.

Here's the problem: LEDs are supposed to be power saving devices. Therefore, it makes little to no sense to me to design a circuit with LEDs such that the resistors are dissipating more power than the LEDs, themselves. It is, indeed, a more robust, fault tolerant circuit, yes, but it's still a wasteful one.

If you want to rig up 24 LEDs in parallel, and assuming you design the circuit such that each LED has its own resistor to dissipate (14.5-3.3)V [so if only 1 LED dies, you have 23 still working] realize that you have 24 resistors wasting a ton of power. If were talking about your standard configuration of 3.3V, 20mA LEDs, then that's 480mA of current drawn... that's up there with the incandescent bulb you're replacing! In short, each LED dissipates 66mW whereas each resistor dissipates 224mW. Multiply each by 24 and see what I mean

Do note, you can rig up 24 LEDs in parallel but only use one big-ass resistor at the end of it. Realize, though, that for each failure thereafter, the remaining LEDs will have less brightness compared to the case where each has its own independent resistor. In other words, the resistance would be ideal for 24 LEDs, but is slightly too high for 23, and even higher for 22, etc, etc. But for a handful of failures, this is OK, as the elevated resistance serves as an extra safeguard.

On the other hand, if you rig this same set of 24 LEDs in series... well, you'll have to rig it up in a hybrid series/parallel mix. So you can do 6 parallel sets of 4 LEDs in series. Now, the drawback is that you lose the functionality of a "row" of LEDs should one of the LEDs in series die or be shorted, etc. BUT, you have much less current consumption - in this case, 20mA x 6, which is 120mA. And, when you calculate it out, the LEDs, this time, are consuming the bulk of the power, and the resistor(s) are doing very little because you're dissipating [14.5-(3.3 x 4)]V instead of the 11.2V from the parallel example. In this case, each set of 4 LEDs dissipates 264 mW while each resistor per row dissipates 27.2mW.

In this case, the same can be done like in the parallel example. Do a 6 parallel by 4 series LED array and have it all leveled off with one single resistor at the end of the circuit. Sure, similar to before, if you lose a row in this configuration, the remaining rows have less power... but you get that extra margin of current safety.

I won't get into special things like Voltage Regulators because I really don't have much experience with 'em. I did buy some 3.3V ones, which really could solve the resistor issue, but the problem is, these things will still get pretty hot if you start running half an amp through 'em. Getting hot is not much different than what the resistors do, so

Anyway, for the masses inquiring about the license lamps - I placed an order of 10 pairs. There's usually a day of delay in fulfilling my order, but I can only hope that the goods arrive at my door by this Friday. If not, we're looking at another 1.5 week lead time

The real hassle with a new shipment of OEM lamps is the work involved with taking them all apart and then coating the copper in the liquid tin solution. Then, of course, they have to be reassembled and finally I can make the circuit boards with LEDs and seal and solder. That's a quarter of a Saturday, right there

But I wanted to let everyone know that things are moving... and about half of the new ones are spoken for.

Ok so with so many things I've seen you pu out I would really appreciae a lisiting of current products and prices. As far as I can tell I'm interested in the dome light wide angle and license plate lights w/ white leds, but I'm not sure I've seen everyting you can produce. Thanks!!!

Ok - here's a summary of things that I make:

LED Center Dome Light Module
LED wire + resistors to replace the Map Bulbs
LED Hatch Lamp (Same as the Dome Light Module, really)
LED License Plate Lamps (Modified, brand new OEM lamps with LEDs and sealed)

I encourage people to send me a PM with pricing inquiries.

Also, I haven't received my shipment of new License Lamps, yet - so I might not have anything ready until next weekend (especially with the 4th in the middle of the week)
