I'd like a set of the license plate lamps in the bright white. Please PM me with a price when you get a chance. No rush. Thanks!

I got my overhead white LED board in today... I wasn't expecting bare wire connections but it installed just fine and looks good so far. I have yet to see it at night. I had this same thing in my Camaro a few years ago and loved it. It should look awesome!

Do any of you notice that the overhead LEDs stay lit very dimly?

CaysE - I'm sure it's buried somewhere within this thread, but I posted a sort of FAQ about the lights and that phenomenon is listed. Cliff notes version: a little bit of current leaks through that circuit when the lamp has faded to "off". It's not truly off. You don't observe this with a regular bulb, however, as its resistance is far too great for it to light up at that level. LEDs, being much more sensitive, reflect this by barely lighting.

Outside of that, I hope you're enjoying one of the few modules I've been able to produce these last few months.

And on that subject - I apologize to everyone that has inquired or otherwise waited patiently. Being a federal contractor has been a successful gig for me, and having work is always better than not having work. But now that's basically my biggest hassle with respect to producing these LEDs.

Since June, we've been understaffed (IT, my profession, is low priority against space flight projects) since our last hire left in June... a dispute with management

Anyway, the two of us incumbents, myself mainly sysadmin, and the other, mainly development, were hoping the other person would offload some of our duties, but his departure basically threw that back onto me. So, take that, and 50-60 hours per week, and I'm sure you can understand why I might not be in the mood to wretch my back and crick my neck at my home "ghetto-lab station".

Unfortunately, I'd get fired fast if I attempted to make any modules while at work

That said, I have made some arrangements with an intern here, and right now he's getting acquainted as my "subcontractor". School has just started, but once he is settled in, we'll see how the modules progress.

Also - if there's anyone out there who can possibly refer me to a place that can accept a PCB layout file (Orcad, or something) that can produce a small quantity of single-layer boards for my LEDs, I'd be interested in hearing from you. It's just ironic that in a place where people design electronics, I can't find practical help, because everything is large scale (huge minimum buy) or large cost$$$.

Thanks again for hearing me out, everyone.

Hi, everyone - I am this || close to declaring my projects "open source" because of a mixture of frustrations and new personal opportunities.

The situation with the hired help isn't working out, and though I'm told that some boards are done, I'm assuming that nothing much has happened. I take full blame for hoping that this might help out.

As it stands, when I get my stuff back, I should be able to piece together 'kits' that would require the end user to put together. I'd obviously charge a lot less, just so these things get out of my hands and into the hands of people that need 'em.

What do you all think about this? I think the community would be best served if I just give up all my little 'secrets', and give you just about all the insight you'd need. At the very least, I can identify materials and assist with calculations. There would be two guides - one outlining the design of the dome lamp (and hatch/trunk lamp variant) and another for the license lamps. I'll also share my experiences with any LED suppliers I've used.

I really, really hate letting people down, and I'm really glad that everyone has been very understanding. That's why I threw in a few months of sponsorship despite the fact I'm not even doing any business.

Interesting project. I'm new to the list and was trying to determine if anyone was "local" to me.

Haha, yes, looks like you've got me, down to the gate and the car. You'd be the first to point me out on the forums, despite the fact I've run into others on numerous occasions.

Interesting. Small chance I would have picked you out of all the folks on this forum, but then.... a little bit of forum research and a WAG reaped a correct result.

i would be interested in a kit as well, i think mine are all corroded, and with the most recent exterior lighting upgrade (machs) i figure i could fix those plate lights too. and of course i wouldn't scoff at having to assemble 'em myself

HAHA...they ripped off your pic.

Covert, any plans on using higher powered LED in the license plate lamps? Like superflux or pirhana?

Default Re: My LED license lamp solution

To everyone reading this (FJ members AND outside guests, "lurkers" and "googlers"): Any unauthorized use of my images to promote LED lighting products will be dealt with swiftly. In the case of this, and other auctions, people are essentially taking MY work and passing it off as their own.

Competition is fine, but do not use my images to promote products that I have nothing to do with.

I filed an infringement notice with Ebay to address this, and the numerous other auctions where this individual has been using my pictures to promote someone else's product which, in my opinion, is far inferior to what I have constructed - not only in terms of ruggedness but also quality of light.

For the rest of the FJ community - this experience might inspire me to get more lamps produced. It's hard, though, as I've been trying to do many things to keep myself out of the house (photography, especially) and light making accomplishes the opposite.

I appreciate the heads up.
