Default CF Hood Paint Opinions

I got a VIS CF hood at a very fair price recently to replace my badly dented stock hood. There were cracks in the clear of the CF hood, which is why it was such a cheap price. I took it to several shops in my are to see if they could repair it back to a nice clear finish on the hood. Only one shop said they deal with CF and that the cracks were too deep to be repaired. I need to keep looking, but I need opinions on my options. Below are two pics of the hood:

In the second you can see the cracked areas circled. If I need to paint the hood, I either paint the whole thing black (body color) or I can leave the two raised parts of the hood CF and paint the middle and two sides black. I think they are my only options if this cannot be repaired due to the crack locations.

Also, the shop quoted me $300 to paint all but the raised areas, that seemed a little higher than what I was expecting. Is this a fair price?

for materials, you're prob looking at close to 225 or so, so 300 including labor wouldn't be that far off. I'd personally paint the whole thing, except for the two bits that lead up to the raised sides. would give it a really cool look, without ricin.

If the clear is just cracked you can sand it down yourself and just pay a shop to shoot it. Then buff it yourself.

The cracks actually go down to the weave in most sopts, so I am being told it is beyond repair by this shop.

Ive never delt with something like this at work, but if the cracks go to the weave they'll need to be filled with filler and sanded flush. I'd recommend painting the center part up to the lines body color, and seeing if the shop has maybe a clear filler they can put in the small one on that pass side edge crack, and then wet sand it smooth and buff it if its that noticeable. It can be fixed, if we were closer i could do it for you.

Paint the whole hood black but leave the 2 grooves in the hood unpainted.

That way the majority of the hood is covered, but you have a little showing through so people can see its CF.

If you want to try to try and fix the problem your self you could sand the aera around the crack with 400 grit lightly.

Then get a resin that matches the resin that is already on the hood and fill the cracks with it.

When the resin is fully cured you take a paint stick and cut it into 1" sanding block that you can then use to flatten out the resin you filled the cracks with.

Sand the resin with 800 grit then move on to 1000 grit and then 1500 grit. Rember to sand out a little further each time so you don't develop a low spot.

After the resin is sanded flat polish out the scratches with a compound.

Hope this helps.
