Default Street Appearance Diffuser "how-to" for SVT's

Street Appearance - Sport Appearance, whatever. Alright, so I ordered the diffuser from Steve last week, working on it on and off, I got it finished tonight. Posted below are step-by-step (not the NKOTB song) instructions and plenty of pics. Sorry if I missed something and sorry that the car is extremely dirty. I've got the Borla cat-back and I love the way it sounds, but always thought the tip stuck out too much - this definitely takes care of that problem.

1. Remove the 4 screws from the top and pop out the bases, two more on the bottom:

2. Jack up the rear end and pull off the wheels, remove the fastener holding the wheel well in place, then pull it back and remove the other two fasteners:

3. Wrestle the rear fascia off and remove the 11 fasteners holding the SVT diffuser in place:

4. I would recommend fitting and clamping the diffuser in place and then marking the spots to drill. Drill into the 4 BIGGEST tabs in the diffuser and corresponding spots in the fascia:

5. The tabs on the diffuser fold over and attach to the fascia like so:

6. I used some sheet metal screws in the 4 tabs (some reuse the screws from the SVT grille) and then 1.25" screws and speed nuts on the outside tabs. I re-used some of the push pin fasteners on the two inside folded over tabs (couldn't get the screws back in though.):

7. Wrestle the rear fascia back on, re-install the fasteners (you'll have some leftovers now) and enjoy:

As a note, if you've never used the black fasteners, you can pop the "base" in and then push the "screw" back in. All in all, I'd say it took me 3-4 hours after getting the fascia off, lining everything up, drilling the holes, lining everything back up, redrilling the holes, etc. I hope I didn't oversimplify it for anyone.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy.

Thanks for posting the how-to as I never took pictures when I installed my diffuser.

Great writeup, though I think I'll still be perfectly happy once I get the stock SVT rear bumper on

Looks good. When I saw that on on the ST at the Chicago Auto Show, I wondered if it would fight. Guess it does. Don't know if I can part with my SVT rear just yet.

i dont get it, if someone says the bumpers are exactly the same part no, then why are the diffusers different? someone needs to be more clear on this.

They are the same part number, but there was a physical change to that part in 05, when the SAP kit came out.

If you have an SVT, you need to do these modifications on the old bumper, even though it is the same part number.

There is only one SAP diffuser.

All the new replacement SVT rear bumper covers have the holes for either SVT grille or SAP diffuser.

The original SVT bumpers did not have the slots since the SAP diffuser had obviously not been thought of yet.

Heres what it looks like installed on mine, I've got a replacement bumper due to being rear ended a couple years ago so mine fits exactly as it's supposed to.
