This how-to is for making your own shortie antenna. It should take about 10 minutes total to do.
Procedure: 1. Take antenna off car by unscrewing it. 2. Boil a pot of water. 3. Wait until water has reached its boiling point, then stick the head of the antenna in, 4. Wait about 2-3 minutes then take the antenna out, and firmyl try and pull the antenna head off 4a. The antenna head is held on with glue so it just needs to be warmed up! 4b.Also, if the boiling water does not work, try using a hair dryer or heat gun, be carefull not to melt it though. 5. Use your favourite cutting tool, and cut the antenna to any length you wish to do (Dremel's work best) 6. If you have cut uneven, use a file and make it even! 7. Put a dab of superglue on the end of the antenna and place the tip back on (If the tip will not slide on, use a small dab of soap and water on, this will dry up underneath the cap and stay put) And voila! you have yourself a new self made shortie antenna. If you have radio stations that are all 100 miles away, you will lose your reception, but not all of it. Pic of self made shortie antenna: ![]() I cut mine down to half length, but a lot of people cut theirs down to stubby antennas. Saved $60 on a new shorty antenna by doing this! good luck and happy modding! ~Lorne Last edited by LornesBored; 07-16-2006 at 06:38 PM. |
