Default Hazard switch burnouts?

Just throwing this question out there to see if anyone else has a problem like this or has heard of anything similar.

I seem to be having a problem 'burning out' the flasher... or relay... located in the hazard switch. I've owned this car for 2 years and I had this happen the first time last week. I had all the turn signals on the left side of my car stop working and traced the problem to the hazard switch. Signal was getting TO the switch, but no signal was leaving it. Not even my little green arrow on the dash lit when I hit the stalk for a left turn.

I replaced the hazard swtich with a spare I had laying around and everything worked fine again. Then on the way into work this morning, nearly a week to the day, it pops again; both sides this time. Now I'm left with no functioning turn signals and no time till this weekend to go hit a salvage yard for another hazard switch.

Is it just coincidence that this happened twice in the last two weeks? Or does it hint at a deeper problem?

Maybe you have a short on one of the leads to your signals?

Have you made ANY electrical modifications (neon lights, etc) that could be causing a higher than designed amperage flow through any of the the lighting circuits?

I swapped in Euro taillights and rewired the blinkers to work seperately from the brake. But I've had that done for at least 2 months now.

I suppose there is a chance something with those is causing it. But wouldn't that have shown up earlier?

Might want to check for that wire rubbing problem in the back of the hatch near the tail lights for a short

Well, i went back through my taillight wiring and fixed it so that its using the cars' existing wires and not wires spliced into anything. Plugged it all back into a new hazard switch and all the turns work now, but I have no clicking noise, lol.

That I can deal without. I have a long trip back to the parents in NY tonight, so we'll see if the fuse/switch holds for the trip.

Thanks for the input guys.
