Default Valve Cover

I didn't know where to put this since it isn't technically a performance mod but it's not exactly an exterior mod either but I'm looking for a valve cover of some other material than the stock plastic one. Are there dress up kits available like for traditional motor? A powder coated aluminum job in red is my first choice.

Thanks a million.

You can pick up a Contour metal valve cover and get it powdercoated...They will fit the Focus Zetec.

I'll hopefully have my painted Contour valve cover installed soon and I'll take some pictures of it once I do

I did mine for about $30. I grabbed the cover, bolts and grommets from a junkyard, cleaned the cover up, painted it with some blank wrinkle paint and then got a gasket. Done, looks great and doesn't anywhere near the $80 or so a powder coated one does that doesn't even come with grommets!

I have a regular Zetec engine, what are the grommets for?

The metal Contour cover uses grommets in the bolt holes. The plastic Focus cover does not. They are pretty expensive from Ford IIRC. The new gaskets come with the grommet o-rings, but not new grommets.

So is that the only recourse? Is there a market for, perhaps milled billet aluminun valve covers? Or custom powdercoated covers. Let me know and I'll see what I can come up with. If carbon fiber wasn't so passe I would suggest this also. They would be the easiest to manufacture. Also what about custom engine covers. Like the kind Foose makes to clean up the engine bays of his show cars. Just some ideas. Let me know if there is an interest.

FocusSport had a really sweet aluminum valve cover that comes up from time to time, but I'd venture that it wasn't a big sales success which is why it has been discontinued. I shouldn't speak for FocusSport though, but I do believe folks were not really willing to pay the price they were worth.

In my experience, the Focus market is pretty cheap... very few folks are willing to pay for the premium stuff.
