Default SVT/Mach Audio Headlight Cut-off Shield

Hey guys...

I can't seem to find an old thread that talked about the SVT/Mach audio headlights and hot to remove the cutoff shield for better lighting. Anyone have any ideas on a how-to?

Thanks!

Nope, not joking. My SVT headlights have that mod, but i didn't do it. I bought them like that.

There was an old thread (big discussion) about it. It was a how to, but some members were saying that it didn't work, others that it did help with better lighting.

Removing the shield will make it like you have your high beams on all the time (since the E55 projector in MACHs is a bi-xenon projector and it pulls the shield out of the way when you turn the high beams on). If you remove it, you'll be blinding oncoming traffic all the time.

So yeah, it'll seem like you're getting better light output (kinda), but all you'll really be doing is shining light higher and pissing off other motorists

Have you already done this Jon?

http://www.ofoc.ca/hid/step05.html

If not, I HIGHLY suggest it It will let the HIDs stay on along with your halogen highs when you flick on the high beams.

But given all the work you've done to your wagon, I bet you've done it already...

I wonder if you could do that to the Anzo Projectors.

I achieved some nice results with the E55's I had for a short time by removing the upper shield (more foreground light) and pushing on the shield (I got some nice blues and purples at the cutoff, instead of yellows). Another plus would be some clear lenses (LINK), instead of the stock fresnel lenses. That will definitely give you a sharper, more colorful cutoff.

Oh, and if you get the new lenses, I would suggest the "Value" lenses ($30 cheaper) instead of the "Premium" (unless money is no concern). The flaws on the value lenses are so minimal you wouldn't even notice, and they don't affect light output at all.

^How hard is it to swap lenses? I looked into it and it seemed like it would be a major PITA, so I never followed through on it...

I think it is a matter of bending some tabs that hold the lens holder in place. I don't remember exactly since I only had the E55's for like 2 weeks before I sold them. I never did the lens swap personally.

I saw the how-to on it and it does look easy, I'm just curious what the difference in light output is and if any of the light ends up in other drivers' eyes. A shot of the cutoff against a wall would be great if you can get it
