Default Focus Challenge 2005 Event Registration Now Open!

The Focus Challenge is pleased to announce that registration for its first two 2005 events is open.

Visit www.focuschallenge.com to sign up and to pay. You must pay through the Focus Challenge website to officially participate in the challenge.

For BeaveRun, May 21 and 22nd, the official FocusChallenge day will be Saturday the 21st. You can sign up for each day individually if you'd like for $190, or the discounted rate of $330 for both days.* Note, that participation in the challenge does NOT require you run both days. Once you are logged in on the events page... click Sign Up, then you can click one of the buy now buttons. The one on the right pays for the full weekend. The one on the right is for the individual days.

Buttonwillow will be $165 for Sunday May 8th.

Exact course configuration subject to change at any time.

FAQ:

Q: Why is it more than the charge that Red Line Track Events charges?
A: A modest charge is added for participation to cover fixed costs associated with the Challenge's operation, as well as incidentals such as trophies, etc. We try to keep that cost as low as possible.

Q: Do I need to pay extra for timing?
A: Yes. The Challenge utilizes the AMB timing system that Redline Track Events uses at their events. We work with Redline to keep that cost as low as possible, and you should consult with them as to the exact costs. (We may be able to get a discount but are unsure... they might have to fly a specialist out to BeaveRun for the event...)

Q: How is scoring determined?
A: At this time, we are developing our system to base your score off of your best times throughout the day. Full details will be posted on FocusChallenge.com no later than April 20th as to what changes are being made.

Q: Do I need any special licenses, safety equipment, or anything?
A: You need a helmet with a Snell Rating of 95 or higher. Thats it. Check the website for a recommended list of safety gear.

Q: What is this all about, really?
A: Having fun! Pushing yourself in friendly competition can be quite rewarding. But mostly, we want everyone to come away from the event with some new friends, some better friendships, and some more driving skill. No matter your skill level... you'll have a great time!

Q: Weather concerns?
A: Rain or shine we run!

Q: Who do I talk to if I have additional questions?
A: info@focuschallenge.com is how to get us!

Lots. They usually run 3 groups, at 20 minutes each/hour... all day.

Humm. Will a set of V700's last for that much track time at Beaverun. I've never seen it.

I checked out the Redline site. It mentioned passing is allowed, but the no contact rule is strictly enforced. Does this mean they allow passing in the turns?

Above you state paying extra for timeing. How much above the $330 is it going to be?

Humm, I'm sure I'll think of more...

Depends on the level of drivers. We've done a couple times where we allowed passing in turns only on the advanced group cuz they were all aware.

Generally... its pass with a point-by. So if you get pointed by in a turn....

Dunno exactly how much timing could be... specially for 2 days. Stay tuned.

I ran a set of old, well heat cycled, Victoracers there for 1 day (about 2 hours of track time) with little wear to show.

1. So if I run only Sunday, I cannot get an Official FocusChallenge time?

2. Would a Hot Lap Timer be eligible or not?

For individual timing. However, we've found that their reliability is less than perfect (far from it) and the errors lead to big problems in terms of calculating scores.

With AMB timing, and having everyone's times in the database, we can better control the variables.

If you can suggest a better way with the HotLaps, we'd be open to hearing it... but too many of us found lap times on our timers like 42 seconds on a 1.8 mile track. Either we're setting massive records, or the system is just too unreliable.

1. So if I run only Sunday, I cannot get an Official FocusChallenge time?

As for running on Sunday, we must insist that the times be collected from the same single day. Again, too many variables exist from day-to-day. Initially we started with running one session and only allowing times from said session to minimize the variables to the most. However, we've found that taking the best times throughout the day is a better option. If you wanted to run on Sunday, and its raining all day Saturday, how would it be fair to compare your dry times to everyone else who ran in the wet?

Your times can be recorded on the website, absolutely, however for rankings and such...... we must confine it to the official days. Same with HotLaps timers, etc. If you run hotlaps on Sunday, (or any day you're on a track, any track) submit it to us and we'll be happy to record it. We trust you to be honest. Else you might get called out and made to be proven you can do it a la "Drumline."

I thinnk this is a great deal you guys have started, and when ketchup gets running again, she won't just be a straight line demon, if you follow my draft (play on words there )

One question for the "Experienced" drivers, is there a guide or writeup on open track etiquette anwhere online? I'm firmilliar with open drag racing, but never done an actual track event like this. I've googled it and cant find much. TIA!

Its simple... "Do onto others..."

Let em pass if you're holding em up. If you go off, don't come back on right in the racing line dragging crap with you. Don't be afraid to ask questions, and don't be scared to start with the beginners.

The important thing is to have fun! Don't overdo it... its not too much fun when you're towing your wreck home.

Good stuff, I thought it would be more structured.. If she's back together in time, Ketchup and I will definately be signing up, if not, there's always next time.

Thanks Guys! Although I'm not likely to be there Saturday, I wll definately try to make an event sometime. I have plans in the works to hit Thunder Hill's High Performance Driving School this summer, which should help me out a ton I'm sure. Thunder Hill is about 1.5hrs from me, and Infenion (where I drag race) is 2.5 hrs from me.
