The eraser didn't work for me. Guess i have to try the pb route. And i agree about the b2b washing off and the residue being there.

if you want to make the trim shiny put some tire shine on it an apply with a brush since that stuff dries black it's unnoticeable. it fades away after a couple weeks but can always be touched up as needed

i've generally found that dressing up the plastic will hide the wax for a little, but once it wears off you'll see the wax again.

blkse03, i'm really surprised the eraser trick didn't work for you. it's ALWAYS worked well for me. huh.

I just recently tried Turtle Wax' new product called ICE. It's a car polish that won't leave any white residue and can be applied in direct sunlight/heat. I actually used it on my mirrors and door handles to take off the left over residue from previous waxing/polishing!

Worked so well I went out and picked up the spray detailer! For once... turtle wax is making some awesome products that truly preform! (their new tire gel kicks ass too! )

For black restoration, I've had good luck with a product called "Black Chrome"

I use plastic protector, the stuff you shine the plastic on the inside of your car with. Washes off after a few weeks though.

Default Removing Wax and Residue

Ok, so we have all gotten atleast a little bit of wax on our plastic trim. I know that the "pink pearl" will work removing that, but I found a product through a friend of mine who owns a body shop and it works great! It is called Black Renew Exterior Trim Treatment. not only does it remove the wax and residue, but it also cleans and shines the black trim.

It is about $13 for an 8 oz bottle, but a little goes a long way. I just dabbed a bit on a rag and wiped down the mirrors, handles etc.

On a side note, they have other products that work really well too. I just got my hood painted and had to get some marks out form when I washed it the first time. I used the Shine Master Polish and Sealant and it came out great. It removed and swirls and marks that were in the paint. The best part, it is safe on newly painted surfaces.

I just thoguht that I would pass along this find to you guys... here is alink to the site

Happy detailing!

Are you sure it doesn't give you the peanut butter effect, where it greases up the trim and makes it look good, while a while later the wax comes back?

Yeah, I was concerned about that myself. It gives a nice clean look, not too much of a shine. There is not a greasy finish either, not a wet look either. Just a nice, deep black clean. It is actually something that is used in body shops to remove wax and buffing compound. I am very happy with the results on my vehicle.

Beats the hell out of using an elementary scool pink eraser and developing carpal tunnel eh?

But unless something is literally removing the grey wax from the texture of the plastic moldings, the product that stayfocused is talking about is merely covering the old wax.

If one is okay with that, then fine.

The larger, white art erasers can do the job of the pink pencil-tip erasers too.

I bought both. For the most part the pink eraser worked better than the white since it was harder and more resistant. Then again the white eraser did come in handy at some points. Both are $1-2 bucks.

Using products to merely shine the trim or blacken it up is a bad idea IMO. Oh my hatch, after using a bit or Armor All and Lexol, the hatch started smoothing out. Maybe because it sat in the sun a bit? I'm not sure. But I can tell you that the pink eraser did not work effectively back there. White worked a bit better since it was softer. You need a griddy plastic surface for the erasers to work their best.

Nope, it removes it from the textured plastic, doesn't just cover it up. Just thought I would offer out something I know works to both remove the wax and clean and shine the plastic.
Whatever works for you... if you like using an eraser, .

I don't believe you.

Besides, I don't have this problem; my mouldings are factory-painted. I have demonstrated the eraser trick to others less fortuntate.

I agree with this - use good wax and when you do wax, go around with a toothbrush in your back pocket - as soon as you get wax on the trim, scrub it out with the toothbrush. I never have wax dry in the texture of the trim as long as I do this. Even if it does dry, the toothbrush gets it out with nothing other than just elbow grease.

Theres something much easier and works VERY well on removing bugs and debris from the front of your car as well, use a Bounce dryer sheet in warm water. These little jewels work wonders on removing just about anything. Thats an old truck driver trick.

Any dryer sheet will work, but to my knowledge, it only works with bugs on the front of the car.....BUT IT WILL LEAVE MINOR SCRATCHES ON YOUR PAINT so prepare to do a little fixing.

OPTIMUM WAX WILL NOT POWDER THE BLACK TRIM!! IN FACT OPTIMUM WILL CONDITION THE BLACK TRIM.

They were the first company to develop that....
