First a few questions.
How deep is the scratch? Does your fingernail stick in it? Does it grab on the edge of the scratch? Where is the scratch located on the vehicle? Has your car ever been repainted? If your fingernail catches on the scratch, the scratch is too deep to simply wetsand and buff. If that is the case, then the panel will have to be repainted. If if does have to be repainted and it's on the corner of a panel, then you can opt for a spot repair job, which will be cheaper than having a panel repainted and the adjacent panels blended. But...just saying that you have a scratch isn't giving enough info on the situation. Just let us know so we can help you out. dave.

-the arrow points to the bottom rear of the driver side passenger door. the scratch is about 3" long and you can pull on it with your fingernail at the top but not so much at the bottom. there is a 1/8" size chip at the very top where the impact happened. this is the original paint and there isn't any kind of dent that i can see.-it looks like it needs to be filled/sanded. -i have minnamal painting skills- is this something i could do at home? |

A PROFESSIONAL may be able to wetsand and buff most of it out and just touch up the chip. If it is deep, you'll need to have the door repainted. Luckily, the car is black and you won't have to blend any panels.
I would never advise someone to do a painting job at home...especially if they have no "vehicle painting skills" or the right tools. You wouldn't do open heart surgery on yourself would you? As for a dent, I am noticing a "wave" to the left of the scratch. Notice how the concrete appears to raise up in the reflection. I could be wrong, but it does look like there is a slight dent there. dave.

if your car is black which it looks to be to me than just touch it up with some black and ws it then rub and polish. Black is good canidate for small touch ups because it can be done if done well to where youll not notice that there was ever an issue there.
