Cool Machine washing the seat covers.

My stock cloth seat covers are pretty dirty from 8 years of abuse. I was thinking about taking them off and washing them in the washing machine. I'm almost sure that I read that someone has done this before. I'm thinking it'd probably make sense to put them back on the seats still wet so they don't shrink. Has anyone done this? Is this a stupid move?

It could be done but it would be MASSIVELY labor intensive since the covors are held on with hog clips that you would have to cut off and then install new ones.

Yea, stock covers are a nightmare to get off, and would take you a solid full day for assembly/disassembly if you know what your doing.

When I bought my Focus, the seats were covered with dark soda/unknown substances. First, I took all of the seat covers off and scrubbed and rinsed them out in the bathtub with cold water and some Simple Green. I had to do this four times to get out all of the soda. I had to use a steam cleaner on the foam to clean it. After that I washed them with cold water in our washing machine and let them air dry in the house. I reassembled the seats and everything fit well. Nothing was too tight or saggy. It took an entire day, mainly waiting for everything to dry, but it was well worth it. The seats cleaned up really well and smelled good.

Hopefully your car isn't in that shape. My only guess is the previous owner had an epic spill everyday she drove lol.

BTW, I had to replace the carpet in my car. It looked like used oil had spilled. I couldn't get it to come out....
