I guess Ford was listening to all of us complaining how the Europeans get better Fords than us.

It seems like ford is determined to relegate the focus to be a rental fleet special both here and now overseas...very disappointing.

Don't read too much into that announcement, or the fact that it was in AutoExpress. Ford does indeed have financial issues, and it's the US market which is causing this. Ford Europe is n profit, the losses are from the US division, hence no C1 platform for you guys.
The announcement that the RS is "shelved" are similar to the ones that were going around before the FRS was released, albeit two years down the line, so it's a case of deja vu. 2007 may see an RS release. |

You know the best part of blaming the U.S. market for it's fiancial problems? We get stuck with the cheapest least interesting cars Ford produces. Australia gets the mean nasty Falcons, Europe gets the Mondeo ST220 and Focus RS. We get the underpowered Taurus, Five Hundred, they stop producing the ZX3 with the 2.3 in it and they pass us over for the Focus MK2. They had a potential world killer here with the SVTF and they shortchanged that car in the horsepower department and then called the car a failure because they had trouble selling them. But somehow it's our fault that we don't buy the underpowered uninteresting cars they shovel down our throats. Do I appear to be annoyed at Ford and their treatment of their home market? |

You're not wrong there mate. We have had the same discussions on FFOC about the ST170 and the fact that they could have had an ST200 instead with the RS producing 250BHP or more. It was the accountants that poo-poo'd it because they were concerned about lack of sales, warranties and reliability !! |

I just don't get Ford sometimes, you'd think the home base would be where your products shine. You would think they would have a little pride about the products they make (for) here, but it appears to be more and more about profit and less and less about integrity. What they don't understand is if you shoot for integrity the profit will come with it.
Now, I am a diehard Ford guy, have been practically since I was born and knew what a car or truck was, however I have twice now came || close to buying a different make of vehicle. Ford seems to be shooting for the conservative aspect a little too much these days, I am no expert but I think most people want a little bit of flare in their cars (preferably the drivetrain department, who likes to drive a wimpy engine and trans?). There is a hint that they might be changing things some with SVT and that there will be more models making more power for the masses, but that's still a crap shoot and you know if the $ doesn't shape up any SVT will be scrapped. If Ford was just raise the standard from adequate power to good matching power levels (with a few overpowered here and there perhaps /evingrin) I think it could do wonders for their image and people might want to buy their cars for what they are rather then simply what they think they need. |

As long as Americans keep floating ford with explorer and F150 sales, The mustang will be the best CAR you'll ever see.
After Nissan, Honda, and Toyota decimate Ford's truck sales, you might see some interesting cars start to be produced. |

There's nothing about trucks that make them inherently more profitable. Hitherto, the only reason Ford, GM, and Chrysler have found trucks more profitable than cars is that they have less competition. With more competition, the profit levels on trucks will fall to the same level as for cars. This is just an inevitability and Ford and GM had better start building great cars again, and fast, because Toyota is about to start eating away their truck market.

Toyota's been about to eat away te truck market for years now.
The ridgeline will not be a threat. 1) it's not functional. 2) it's too small for hte poseurs. |

Ridgeline reminds me of a Japanese-Built (Although it's made in the states) Chevy Avalanche with a 255hp V6...

Ford is still in economic trouble because of the firestone debacle. Ford has many issues still pending from alot of their lawsuits. One of their biggest snafu's is the development problems and total cost of production on the gt supercar. We will get the new focus sonner than you think. All we need is a car that will keep up with the cobalt ss and srt 4 neon/caliber. I would not want a balls to the wall focus rs here because i'm not buying a $28,000 focus to drive to work.

I'd gladly pay ~$30-35k for a AWD 6-speed focus using the new Volvo 3.0L I-6 turbo (350hp) as long as it held true to its past handling performance, had a fairly sophisticated AWD system (no FWD bias it would need to be rear biased, and ability to send power to all wheels not just front or rear sets), was upscale somewhat (nicer interior/stereo/gauges/etc), and didn't have any odd quirks about it (such as weak drive train). Even the 285hp I-6 turbo engine variant would be acceptable; of course the 350 would be preferred
Of course the 285hp variant would not be bad if all it needed was tuning to get it to the 350 level also ![]() Why would I pay so much for a focus? Because, the RS was as fast or faster as EVO's and STI's around most road courses even when it was 60hp or more down. Imagine being at the same hp level, or dare I say more hp....the car would be an enthusiast's dream and a whale of a bargain at anything less then $50k. Imagine one of these cars in the hands of someone modifying it, 400hp/AWD/6-speed/3000lbs/awesome handling...what more could someone want? You’re talking supercar performance for Ford bucks ![]() Alas, I guess we can all dream right? |

Yeah, what's with the "I won't pay $28,000 for a Focus" deal? There are $30,000 Lancers and Imprezas that sell quite nicely, and I certainly would have one if I had the money... same goes for the Focus.

That is the dumbest thing, that car sounded AWSOME, and we complained and got it cancled. Great.
