another option would be to get the all wheel drive hatch by suzuki,fully loaded for 20k.i would like to see a spec class for this car. it will happen soon enough.i love ford,but let's finaly face it ford don't want to cater to our type of people(focus freaks)to ford the mustang is the ikon.

If Ford sheds Volvo like they're doing with Mazda right now, we won't see a turbo inline-5 under a Ford hood. An Ecoboost motor is more likely.

I'd also like to put this whole "global platform" thing into perspective for everyone who is getting so hyped up about it. It's not going to be the States getting the Euro Focus. It's going to be everyone getting the same car on the same platform, with different options dictated by the market, exactly how it was in 2000 when the Focus debuted here. The Focus was a global platform and everybody still complained that Europe got the better car... that's not going to change.

But see europe did get a slightly better car, my pet peeve was the switch from rear discs (ALL euro foci came with 4 wheel discs starting in 1998) here they changed the design to use drums. And of course the fat Canadian spec bumpers.

Having been here since '02 it wasn't until '05 when the rest of the world (yes all of it China, Japan, the Middle East, Africa etc) got the C1 and we got a half assed facelift that the whining started.

BTW. I'm going on record right now. I'll be surprised if the US spec "new" focus has 4wheel discs.

The whining really started in '03 when the RS debuted.

If the new Mazda3 now offering self-adjusting headlights,HID and some other not normal options in the USA C segment is any indication of what to expect to find in the USA C segment market, maybe the next North American Focus wil be not be such a stripped down decontented car.
That said I have heard that the MK3 will be higher standards in Europe then North America.

Can someone point me to the list of standards for these letter-designated "segments" that seem to be all the rage these days?

The roughly correlate with the epa classifications.

subcompact = b

compact = c

Midsize = d etc.

I can't find exactly where that classing system comes from. It's not official EU catagories I belive its German or UK in origin.

This wiki page has a pretty good list of car calsses and how the match up.

Actually, not true. Discs has been in focus since 98 yes, but not in all models. Even today you could buy 2009 euro model with rear drums, it's the lowest basic model though that has absolutely "nothing" as a stock. 2nd lowest model (trend) has then already ESP and thus also discs in rear.

And the best you could buy right now in europe...

I too and disappointed with ford. That is a wonderful car and it would be great to see a newer C30 based platform with the T5 make it to production in the states, but I've been waiting on that for 3 years now and I honestly doubt they will have anything more exciting than a 2.0duratec with maybe a few intake and exhaust tweaks now producing an exciting 143hp for 2010... I give up on the waiting game.. I feel like an abandoned dog who keeps waiting for his master to come home.. intently looking out the front window waiting for nothing.. but remaining ever hopeful.. I'm buying the c30 and calling it quits.

That's beautiful. To the GTI guy, I say go ahead and lease one for 2 years, because it's looking like it's going to take a while still to get some new Euroish foci back over here, and who knows how long til the ST or RS gets here.

Ford Focus ST by Loder1899

Loder1899 a German tuning house is trying to tip the scales with its new customization kit for the stylish hatchback. This consists of a new suspension kit that lowers the vehicle for better handling, a new stainless steel sport exhaust system, a new set of 20 inch “IRA” wheels.

Probably the best part is the engine management system upgrade and a new sports air intake. The 2.5-liter engine now makes an extra 45 hp, bringing the total to 270.
