Default Re: FocusSport/SCT chips FAQ - Please read!

Can both the chip and the flasher be used at the same time?

to my understanding teh chip has a "stock" setting which I would use the flasher to tune. But I realy want the advantages of the security and Valet mode of teh chip.

would switching to a program on the chip by pas every thing that i flashed on the ECU in the "stock" mode?

If it would work and not have any side effects would the flashed program still be there when i switched the chip back to stock or would it have to be reprogramed?

I wouldn't change them, but if you want to its all just personal preference. Don't go crazy with it, though.

What are the advantages / disadvantages and differences (other than the obvious) between flashers and chips? I am considering buying one for my 2.0 SPI with ATX trans. The car is completely stock. What real world improvements should I expect if I go through with it?

Randy, I've been experiencing some abnormal speedo/tacho readings when I start my car cold. The cluster seems to reset itself. All four needles on the cluster jump to max, and then back before it starts reading the true values. It just started about a couple week ago.. I've heard from another forum that chips tend to cause this because of a gauge reset that is programmed in it. I've never heard of something like this, but i figured I'd ask if you knew anything about this occurence (because its a focussport/SCT chip).
Thanks, Ryan

I haven't ever experienced that. And if it hasn't done it from day one, I doubt it has anything to do with the chip.

Hi,
If I buy a second hand focusport turbo kit stage 2, I have to ship the xcal2 to you and you reprogram it? If i want the sct pro racer, do i have to reprogram the xcal2?
In this thread you say:

-The upgrade price for the pro race is $299 if you already have an XCal2.-

That's applied to a second hand xcal2?

Sorry for my english.

You don't need to mail the flasher in to us, files can be emailed to you. That is as long as the flasher isn't locked. If it is locked you'd have to mail it in and pay $150 along with the shipping fees back and forth to SCT for the service.

Here are my rates for turbo programming:

Turbo and Supercharger Custom Tuning
Dyno or Street ( your choice )
In-House or Remote via email and phone ( your choice )
Prices start at $400 and go up from there. Most cars will be fully programmed for less than $600, but that is not a guarantee. This price is with a wideband oxygen sensor. If a wideband is not used or cannot be used, add $100. We sell widebands for $199 if you need one. These prices do NOT include the FocusSport/SCT XCalibrator 2 or X3 flasher that MUST be used.

An important note: If you are planning on pushing your car past the safe limit and/or you have an insane build, running mega boost, or have a REALLY loud car you may be required to have a J&S knock detector on your car. You can talk to me about this if you need more info.

The Pro Racer price is $349 now for people that already have the XCal2 flasher. And it should be noted that we will NOT send out our turbo or supercharger files in a format that can be viewed and changed with the Pro Racer software.

Two questions:
1. We have 89 and 92 octane in my area. Could you do a 92 tune if I order one?

2. I bought a used xcal 2 that was reflashed to stock, but should still be locked to the ecu code. If I buy a tune and send the xcal 2 to you would it still be $150 to unlock it? Otherwise I can buy a $50 cable and do it myself. Thanks.

Well since I didn't get a PM reply from either FS, nore from Drew I'll post in here -

I'll be buying an Xcal2 and just had a noob question (I read over the Q&A but I didn't find my answer) - I currently have a CAI/headers (obx 4-2-1) and exhaust(obx) on my Zetec and don't see myself going for any more engine mods in the future...

So under the options when ordering what should I pick? I'm guessing the rear oxygen sensor disabled? Anything else?

Sorry for the noob questions

I tried msging FS but I got not response from them.

Have you read thru the options descriptions?

http://www.focussport.com/chip2.htm

That should answer your questions. If you don't want to read, I'd probably go with rear o2 disable and EGR disable, but I do suggest checking out the link.

Absolutely not. The programming that is on the SF units is extremely basic and is not as well sorted as our programming. SF flashers are for shops that don't know how to program, that is why we don't sell them.

Hi Randy,
if i want to buy the pro racer with the SCT Pro Racer Edition Manual - The Basics of Tuning, i have to call you to proceed to the order? Because I don't see the option on the web site. I already have the Xcal2 flasher.

My name is Rejean Dery from quebec, canada.
I don't speak english very well so, you will know about what i want when i will call you,
Thanks

aheemm!

Randy, is it possible for someone to use the "modify additional parameters" option with a stock tune? Or is that just when the FS tune is in the ECU.

What about trying to modify parameters with the Mahle reflash?

Thanks,

Uncle Tail ( :

You can only use the modify parameters function with the program that is was created for. You cannot use it on your stock file or any other file that it was not intended for.

I know this might sound retarded, but I will ask anyway. When you refer to the color of the chip, what part of the chip are you referring to? I know I am dumb

I know you guys are always testing and I have had my chip for over 5 years. Has anything major changed? Would it be a good idea to send you my chip and have it reprogrammed?

Not unless there is a problem. If its running well, I'd leave it alone.
