Default FocusSport 36inch logo legal?

I should be getting the 36inch logo from FocusSport and was wondering if anyone knows if it is legal on the windshield or not? in va, where i live, you can have tinting as long as it isnt reflective, above the as-1 line on the windshield. does that mean i can put this up there too?

thanks!

I can't answer that. You'd need to check your local laws.

Put it on, if you get ticketed, it's illegal.

Don't know about your state, but in CA it's 7 inches on the top of your windshield that is legal.

That is incorrect. You've misinterpreted the law, and/or been told incorrectly.

California Vehicle Code Section 26708 (a) (1):

No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows.

26708 (b) (3)

This section does not apply to any of the following:

Signs, stickers, or other materials which are displayed in a 7-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield farthest removed from the driver, signs, stickers, or other materials which are displayed in a 7-inch square in the lower corner of the rear window farthest removed from the driver, or signs, stickers, or other materials which are displayed in a 5-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield nearest the driver.

not necessarily true.

you can piss of a cop, and he can ticket you for all kinds of crap, doesnt mean its illegal till its proven in a court of law

You sure you aren't missing more info? I've had numerous law enforcement officers tell me that you can tint the top 7 inches of the windshield.

Additionally, some vehicles come FACTORY with tint in those areas...so that would be an interesting ticket.

I'm quoting the law there brother. If you can find another law, so be it. But thats the law regarding this issue.

I realize you are quoting straight code, but I am asking if you know if there may be ADDITIONAL code with clarification as to the use of decals or tint on the top of the windshield.

The weird thing is that the CHP and DMV have regulations posted on their sites that contradict one another. I often questions which ones I should go by.

The CHP site states the following about tint...

Tinting the front side windows and the windshield (except for a narrow band at the top of the windshield). Windows behind the driver's head may be tinted. If rear window is tinted, right-side mirror is required (26708 VC).

I guess the truth of the matter is that if a cop wants to ticket you they will do so as stated in a post above.

Tinting is different.

26708 (c) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), transparent material may be installed, affixed, or applied to the topmost portion of the windshield if the following conditions apply:

(1) The bottom edge of the material is at least 29 inches above the undepressed driver's seat when measured from a point 5 inches in front of the bottom of the backrest with the driver's seat in its rearmost and lowermost position with the vehicle on a level surface.

(2) The material is not red or amber in color.

(3) There is no opaque lettering on the material and any other lettering does not affect primary colors or distort vision through the windshield.

Tinting has some measure of transparency, and therefore is allowed. But clearly, as defined, lettering or a vinyl strip are not allowed as they are not transparent.

Like Randy said, check your state laws. Here in CA, for example, anything larger than 4 inches wide on the windshield is considered illegal. Each state will be different.
