What this means to you: Ford hopes the Focus RS will do for its European image what the Mitsubishi Evo and Subaru WRX have done to enhance those brands' performance pedigrees. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
We Won't Be Doing That Again
Take the strange case of the Ford Focus, a situation that stunned Mulally when he arrived at the company. Though the brand name is sold worldwide, the Focus is not created equally across international borders. The Focus sold in Europe is not the same as the one sold in the U.S.
American auto enthusiasts have long whined about being unable to buy the European-specification Focus in the U.S., and they wailed even louder when they learned the redesigned 2008 Focus for the U.S. would not have the Euro underpinnings either.
But no more. Starting with the forthcoming Ford Verve, Ford vehicles will be global for the most part,
declares Mulally.
