Default xcal 2 blowing fuses?

has anyone had any issues with their SCT blowing a fuse the 2nd you hook it up to the obd-II? key is off and out of ignition. i do nothing but hook it up and blows a fuse. other scanners at the part store, shops, etc all work. is this a known problem?

Is this a new unit or have you had it for a while or purchased used?

Most likely the fuse is the one for the cigarette lighter. It is possible that there is a wiring problem where the cable plugs into the unit; we have seen it before with our older units but not so much with the newer ones.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is this the second one I've sent you? IIRC I tested the flashers you have had and they work fine, its your car from what I have seen. I can't take a product back that has no issues that has already been used for a couple of weeks, I'm really sorry. You can sell a used flasher for around $250 or so.

OK, I guess I confused you with someone else.

Looking at a lot of your previous posts, it really sounds like your car. Every once in a while we get weird situations like this where the car's wiring has been messed with.

my car just got out of the shop. everything has been fixed and they never had a single issue with my OBD hookup with all of their tools. but they tested the sct and it would still blow a fuse. i dont know what it could be and i dont want to sell the sct with a potential problem but i dont wanna be screwed out of my money and not get use out of anything. i just want something that works.

put in a higher amp fuse when you use the xcal and put the regular back in when your done.. thats what i had to do because mine kept blowing the regular fuse.. others have had this problem as well

Do you leave your car charger, or radar detector or something plugged in while you're trying to flash?

Thats the one criticism I've always had with the Focus... the cig lighter/power source powered full-time and not switched.

i put in a 30amp fuse when i did it to make sure. its not going to hurt anything, just allow you to flash the car. its pretty simple....

ill try it i guess. is the sct pulling a lot more power than a regular scan tool a shop or part store would have? as i said thse dont pop the fuse. thats just weird to me.

ill be damned. bigger fuse allowed it to work. need to wait until the end of this tank. i almost dont wanna pay for the 91 octane now. oh well. such is life.

i know i did when i tested the scanner. ive not yet re-installed the tune. kinda trying to sell the SCT but not too many people seem interested. but i will make sure to always have the right amp fuse in there AFTER the tune.

it is what it is ... but why do i have to do this? is there still a funky electrical issue? does the sct pull more power than a normal scan tool?
