I think he is refering to the turbo gaskets. You can buy the turbo gasket kit (felpro) from autozone etc and it comes with the mounting gasket (turbo to manifold) oil inlet and outlet gaskets and also the compressor inlet and outlet gasktes (ford style with bolt on inlet and outlet) Thats what I buy for my car, just tell them I need a turbo gasket kit for a 1984 Tbird turbocoupe. And, the complet kit is only $6.00

So every turbo has its own specific flange??? So just buying a turbo and a manifold doesn't exactly work just that simply then huh?

What turbo are most people using with the Foci. T3/T4 I think is most popular...but what are the specs that most are using (a/r, etc). Are T4s too big???

T3/T4 is an oversized turbo for a focus in most cases.. T3 seems to be just right. My car has a .63/.60 stg 1. Toms kit uses a T3 but noone know what the specs are, he will not TELL!!

I've spent all day searching throught the FI forum and read alot about the T3/T4 as well as the T3 Super 60 which Tom actually dropped a small hint about in one of the threads!!! But my question is where can you get these turbos...what am I looking at in terms of price for a turbo...I've seen $550-$2000+, knowing that some of the super prices are for ceramic BBs and such. Thanks...

Well, to be honest, I started mine with a turbocoupe turbo off an I believe its an 85 and older tbird. (garrett, not similar IHI RH5) Has the .63 turbine housing, .60 comp housing. THen upgraded the compressor housing to one with slip on couplers. Got turbo for free, rebuilt it myself, bought new comp housing for $140 from turbonetics...total cost $250

A t3/t4 stage 3 turbo with .48 a/r ratio may have full boost at 4,000 rpms on a zx3. I would think a big t3 turbo would spool around 3,000 rpms or so. A person would need to purchase a dual ball bearing t3/t4 to make the turbo spool 1,000 rpms sooner like the big t3 turbo.

A dual ball bearing t3/t4 at that point would have the low end power of a t3 with much better top end power. The only thing is it will cost around $1,920 for that turbo from innovative turbo.

Well, Tom could probably tell you better than I but this is my theroy. You should need a blow off valve (greddy, approx cost $229) wastegate (turbonetics, approx cost $225)
I am unsure if toms starter kit comes with oil lines or not, but if not add another $75-$100 and that should cover most of your major items. Don't for get to budget for a new flex and exhaust, atleast in the near future after installing the turbo..

tom do you offer any other flange options(t25 etc...) for your DIY kit? this info will help people choose the right kit for their application.

Probably the umbest Q EVER....buuuuuuuut...when you buy just a turbo...does the difference between the directions the housings face ever change? I'm talking about how the end part of each the compressor and turbine side of the turbo face in a cetain direction are they the dame on each and every turbo or not?

I ask because if I were to buy a turbo from say Ebay or even a manufacturer...how do i kno that the piping from Tom's starter kit will be matched for this certain turbo? If they all face the same direction then I won't worry...it just seemed that they might not be the same from turbo to turbo...but I guess that would make it difficult to make bolt on turbos...thanks for the info in advance.

CCC

*EDIT* Just for reference of differnt turbos...

CCC, You can clock the turbos and line them up where the pressure side needs to be located then tighten the bolts up

I only offer the t3 style flange

Just remember though, if it has an internal wastegate (which if your using toms starter, you will most likely be using external) is really difficult to clock them.
