Default Vortech FAQ

Ok, this forum has now become my main forum to go to recently, simply because of the incredible prices shown lately on the Vortech from CFM, Tom's turbo kit, and the JRSC reliability and name. Since I am starting a new job soon, and I am an auto-x/track freak, I would like to get into FI, especially with the advances in the chip market with SCT. The Precision Turbo FAQ was very helpful (thanks Welding Rod), the JRSC FAQ was great (thanks JeffN), but a Vortech FAQ would really seal the deal on which system I'd like to purchase within a month or so, since I will have all of the facts right in front of me.

I am not trying to create a distributor war again, I'd just like people's experience with the Vortech, what they like, dislike, what kind of #'s are you laying down, what mods really help/hurt the Vortech, similar format to the other FAQ's. If anybody could be of help, that would be greatly appreciated by myself and probably many others like me. Thanks in advance!

Advantages:
Potentially turbo-like HP numbers
Reliability should be good with a proper installation
Kit is all inclusive, nothing else is needed
works well with all other NA type boltons (except underdrive pulley)
Looks great
Silent

Disadvantages:
No boost until 3k, full boost @ redline
Not torquey
Difficult/time consuming installation
Silent

Thanks for the bottom line info. Anybody want to make this a sticky and let it grow?

If someone wants to gather up some pertinent threads, we can make a post of links and I'll sticky it with the other two.

I can run with the SVTF side of the Vortech house. I'll get you a list of posts regarding my experiences so far.

just a few notes on this kit, my initial impressions.

with the 2.62" pulley, i am making 1psi at 2500 rpm, then 2-3 until 3500rpm, then boost slowly build until about 5500 rpm, where it is around 6psi. the last 4psi happen btwn 6 and 7000 psi.

peak power (on my current tune) is around 6750 rpm, but power slopes off (less increase) after 5500 or so. i dont know why. probably in the tune.

even with a PWR intercooler, i'm making 10lbs of boost (which surprised me).

the kit WILL NOT FIT WITH AN AFTERMARKET SHORTY HEADER. (without modification to the header)

buy an extra teflon seal (like for an oil pan gasket) for the power steering gasket.

buy a shorty 18mm wrench for the power steering line relocation.

go over every part vortech gave you. the oil feed bung needs a spacer (maybe 1/2", we used a 3/4" because that was what was available.)
