Default Re: Budget Turbo Build... From the ground up

instead of sticking the pcv valve in a hose... could i build a box that i could put a pcv grommet in and connect the sealed box to the plate via a hose of proper size... just to clean things up a bit? would it make a difference in the opperation of the pcv or does it need to be closer like the hose method you suggested?

thanks

I was going by the KISS principal. If you want to fabricate a nicer package then by all means, go for it. Post pics when you are done!

Most people vent the PCV. However, it should be hooked up to the intake so that the vacuum created in the manifold draws the oil/water mixture out. Also, although some would leave the PCV Valve out of the system, it is a good idea to keep it there so that pressurized air doesn't get into the crankcase. I'll try to find some pics of a relocated pcv valve..

Here is a pic of my catchcan, altough I didn't use a block off plate system.

planning on picking up a PWR alum. radiator while im at it... and a set of FAL slim fans... so I should have plenty of room with the re-designed pcv system...

I wont be installing it all now... but probably when I pull the tranny in the next few months.

Anyways... parts should be here tommorow so expect some decent progress come thursday.

thanks

motor is DONE!! took it for a test run... i could instantly tell a difference in how the car performed even though I wasnt pulling it past around 3.5k rpm... huge difference in compression or so it felt like... when I let off the throttle now... it actually slows the car down... no leaks as of yet... no smoke or funny noises.... but anyways... i'll get pics and the first start vid up later tonight... for now... im gonna go float around on a boat and watch the fireworks.

shouldnt be too long now and i'll have the rest of my parts for the turbo setup... we shall see though.

have a happy 4th guys!!

Hey alls.... some photo updates.

here is how I left you alls off last time...

got the oil pump and waterpump housing bolted up...

cams in... timing components in place

ported early 2k1 intake in place and alt. bracket w/ alt. installed

motor going in place after installing the flex plate and rear main pieces

motor hangin out

all lined up... motor mount and bell housing bolted up

all finished up ready for initial start-up

all buttoned up after test drive... hood re-installed... needing a bath!!

so far... all is good... no leaks.. no problems that ive noticed.. idles smooth as glass and pulls nicely... not driving it hard yet but we'll see how it works out when I do...

i have a vid of the first start up but my camera is acting up... i'll get it up asap.

50 miles on the clock so far... and counting
-AcId-

I do suggest to anyone who purchases the full upper and lower gasket sets from the dealer... you MUST purchase the waterpump housing gasket, oil pump to block gasket, rear main housing to block gasket, and valve cover gaskets seperately.

over 150 miles on it so far... changed out the break in oil... nothing suspicious in the oil... and the only thing ive came accrossed so far as a problem is I might have a rear main seeping slighly.... which I'm not sure about yet... but if it is... i'll take care of it when I swap in my new tranny in the next few months... i'll just keep a close eye on it... not sure why it would be leaking though.

anyways... thanks guys

A few more pieces to the puzzle...

Getrag 6-spd with Quaife

FocusSport Alum. Flywheel

Shifter, pedal, and other assemblies

skid of parts

and the money shot

hoping for 2 weeks from now to do the swap... and shooting for doing it in less then 3 days... we'll see

Ive located some aftermarket axle shafts... around $120 for the pair with a lifetime warranty... and considering they are coming from advance auto... i'm sure I'll use the warranty at some point... I dont have too much more to locate... gotta find a decent clutch... its either gonna be a CM stg 4... or the stg4 southbend piece... dont know which yet... do suggest one if you can think of one better to use for a 300+whp daily driver

anyways.. thanks for lookin

Im thinking the diff spline is gonna be different...

just a guess tho.

I can count my spline for you when i have my broken tranny out again, but uhhh we're doing our swaps on the same days lol

another thing to think about is the length

dont you have the getrag axles on the skid? Or are you just trying to avoid the 216 ft.lbs you need on the axle nut?

also I recommend you get a intermediate shaft bearing mount from an svt to make sure the axle lines up with the diff

Default Re: Budget Turbo Build... From the ground up

im ordering the svt axle mount.... and i do have the old axles out... but upon removal from the car... the threads got boogered up a bit... did want to chance anything... but I might be able to use them for the time being... axles arnt that hard to replace on this car anyways....

ive gotta pick up a few other things yet.... front wheel bearings (pass side is starting to go...)... driver side control arm.. (cheaper to buy the whole arm then it is to buy just balljoints)...

when i do the front bearings... can I reuse the hubs and knuckles? I wasnt possitive.. i know the knuckles are a non-wear item... but what about the hubs?

I may see if I can get a base tune... or ive heard there is a little box that you can install inbetween the sensor itself and the wiring harness which will also correct the problem.... which would work better for me....

anyways... everything seems pretty simple... and I think I should be good to go... gonna order the clutch this coming weekend... and i should have everything else shortly there after.

anyways... we'll see how it well this plan works out

as far as i know the hubs come off, then you press out the old bearing, press in the new one, then put the hub back on

imo little black boxes only cause problems... like a band-aid for cancer

I checked out the axle shafts... driver side is in good shape but the passengerside has about 1/2"-3/4" of threads stripped off of the end... so i dont know if it will be usable or not...

what do you guys think?

I can post up a pic if need be
