A friend of mine put one of these on his neon(non SRT-4). It burned up after a while because the under-hood temp pretty much killed it. He said he "might" have felt a little increase in power. I'm pretty sure I helped him put an activation switch on the throttlebody. A real rig-job.

I expect we may see REAL electric supercharging on small displacement engines if and when we ever get away from our 12V system and switch to a 24+V system.

...but manufacturers are afraid to make any changes that aren't compatible with the existing automotive infrastructure... and I don't blame them.

If they were actually smart and tapped it into the ignition system, then yeah maybe it would work.

turbo driven by exhaust velocity
supercharger driven by crank velocity
electric boost driven by ignition interval timing

I'm just dumbfounded that nobody has figured that out yet.

It just needs to run to the battery... it is just an electric motor that you'd control with throttle position so that if you needed boost, it'd be there on command.

I don't think the low-current ignition system would have anything to do with it. It'd be a BIG electric motor, and big motors need big current.

It has already been done, but not by these eBay dorks selling crap for $99.95.

A real system would be just about as expensive as any other aftermarket forced induction.

Werd.

...and heavier than a blower or a turbo. Even if it makes it as a 24-volt, still gonna need an additional battery, perhaps, too.

Yay! Another electric sto0percharger thread.
