Default preparing for turbo

I use my focus as a daily driver and put about 25,000 miles a year on it. So I know the fs turbo kit runs at 9 psi on all stock internals. The question is if I wanted to increase the boast what psi would be stock limits and also what would be the parts needed on the engine. IE would I only need rods and pistons at say 16 psi to run reliable or upgrade other items. (Not including the cluth I already know that would need replacement.) At about what amount of horse power can I expect from running 14-16+ psi

stock internals... i wouldnt push past around 12psi... and thats a bit high.

to push 16+ psi safely... rods, pistons, possibly larger injectors depending on what came w/ ur kit... and a tune for the increased boost level...

w/ a stock head... stock intake.... stock cams.... full exhaust (2.5" or larger)... the turbo kit at 16 or so psi and a decent tune would probably put you in the high 200's...

if you arnt wanting to go over 300 or so whp... you could look into svt internals (if your car is Zetec based) or an svt shortblock.... they are known to hold 350whp on a good tune... and thats what im using in my turbo build... im not too sure about what the duratec's will hold up to in stock form... but i wouldnt push 16psi on it either way.

hope that helps a little... and maybe someone w/ a little more experience will chime in.

good luck

So just rods and pistons, thats not to bad.

Whats a good brand to go with that are somewhat reasonable in price but will still hold up. I would need them for a duractec, I have an 07

For rods, I would go with Eagle. They get the job done.

Go to massivespeedsystem.com , they have all the parts you need at a great price.

I wouldnt buy everything from one place... nothing against massive.. but ive found that if you do some lookin through the sponsors page... you can find great deals.

As for parts... I would go with Eagle rods, JE Pistons and personally for the duratec... ive heard you cant go wrong w/ a stg. 2 turbo kit from FocusSport

anyways.. do your research and find the pieces to best suit what you want to do.

good luck

If you have a 2.3L, get the Ranger crank while you're at it. It's cheap and weighs less than the Focus crank. No, it won't work in the 2.0L.

just so you know the focussport kit can run 11psi safely on stock engine. if you wanna go higher, you need to build up internals..

if you are gonna be 16psi or less, you dont need an intake manifold, otherwise itd be good to have as i have heard our stock one's limit is 16psi.

the lightest and most affordable stuff is probably what you can get from f2usa..
using their rods, ranger crank, supertech 9:1 pistons, head and main studs, you should be good to go. eagle rods are about the same price as f2's rods, but alot heavier. or you can do what i'll be doing, thats getting their short block for like $2400 shipped. you get a turbo short block with rods, pistons, crank, balance shaft delete all put together and ready to be put into car with other parts from the engine..

depending on your power goals, you may just need rods and pistons, or nothing at all besides the turbo. what power are you lookin to make to the wheels?
