Default so i ran the 100 shot a couple of times..

i ran about 2 bottles of the 100 shot...it's all good..car runs really nice..but all my spark plugs are bad because i had used ones on it that i got from a friend...i'm gonna get the motorcraft ones that you guys suggest for nitrous...but how much should i gap them? I saw someone posted .60 ?? what do you guys think??

oh and i'm looking to get better spark plug cables since i still have the oem ones...what do you guys think would be good as well??

thanks in advance

nitrous gapping should be less than standard gapping, because as nitrous delivery increases, cylinder pressure increases, exponentially increasing the difficulty of the spark traveling the gap. i think standard gapping on our foci are from .045-.065... i'd keep your gapping at around .045 or less, especially with a 100 shot or larger. i'd also run 1 or 2 step colder plugs.

JBA makes great cables... not sure if they have any for our focus applications, but they most likely do.

i gapped mine at .040 when i was running my 100 shots and that was on the motorcraft platinum

platinum plugs are also generally a no-no with nitrous.

burst temperatures can get so hot that they shear the platinum tips right off, and can cause damage to the cylinder. copper is usually a better choice. here's some more info on plugs and nitrous;

ok I already ordered the copper ones from motorcraft...and I also ordered the 8.5mm msd wires off c-f-m...what do you guys think???..so I shold be thinking of gapping about .40 then?

well you said your car already runs great?

check the gap on your plugs right now if it runs so well and keep that?

Yeah coppers are the way to go. It takes like 5min to change plugs on our cars, I don't want to here anyone bitch about service intervals compared to platinum plugs.

yeah i'd personally gap them at .035 - .040, but you should be good anywhere between .035 - .045.

any wider and there's a very real chance that as your rpms rise while on the bottle, you'll start missing.

I have the 8.5mm on mine with the MSD coil pack and i like it it's nothing major just a little smoother with power delivery

Do you have the stock block, pistons, rods, etc. with a 100 shot?

yes I do...so far it's been good..I'm about to go back to a 75 just for safety thou..I'v already ran about 3 bottles of the 100 shot it's been good.. I don't really think its being aggressive or hard on the motor..I'm gonna go boost later on anyway...but it's fine..why?

i'm not knocking you for doing the 100 shot, but when I ran just a 50-65 shot with ample pressure it was a punch in the face and a shock to the motor too.....saying a 100 shot on a Focus isn't too aggressive is strange...

do you have a bottle warmer to see where you're at? I would think a 100 shot in Foci would be insane on the drivetrain as a whole....especially with as much shock as the motor/drivetrain is taking.

check your plugs next time you run to see what color they are ect....

I don't have a bottle warmer but I don't run it one race after another and so on...I give the car a break..the most I run is twice in a row and I usually do 20-like 90 or 100 ...i have the brand nos so its really maybe like a 90 shot and I just got the motorcraft colder sparkplugs with copper and its been about 2 weeks with them and they are how they should be...

why what do you think?? and it what focus did you do that 50-65 shot?? and what tranni??

Do you have a pressure gauge?

I was just curious, I was thinking about buying a focus to race around at the strip, and I was going to use nitrous so that I don't reduce fuel mileage, but on the weekends anyhow. I'm curious to see how fast I can make the car go with just suspension mods, like ladder bars, stiffer springs both front and rear, drag radials, and from what I hear, I should buy a clutch; I was thinking of the Zoom Stage 3 Clutch.

I don't have a pressure gage because I'm going to go turbo by the end of the year...I just got a wi-band and i'm installing it tomorow...I just kinda guess and I already know that my bottle last about 6-8 races depending on how long i spray witch usually isn't all THAT LONG...and yes you will definalty need a clutch..if the stock clutch is fine it will hold for a couple of months from what I hear..maybe like 4-6...and if you are getting drag radials even worse...I have a stage 2 centerforce ford racing...but my car is fine so fat...running like new and hopefully it will stay that way...and yes I think the car is fine at a 100 shot if tuned and used right..i'm still going to 75 just in case...and if I feel like smoking someone that is talking crap about focuses and i know i can with the 100...then I'll go 100 just for him...until i go turbo

I ask, because I saw your 'videos', and it seemed(judging by time elapsed vs. speed) closer to a 70whp shot.

A low/cold bottle can cause that.

I'm sure Hocky could elaborate.

You'll never know what shot you're really running without a nitrous pressure gauge. If you're not running jetted pressure, you're not making that power. Hell, until you sit on a dyno and do your own jetting, you won't know what the jets really mean.

I have seen what leaving a bottle warmer on over night will do to an LS1 camaro. Lets just say he had to get a new car, and the garage needed some remodeling.

I am just going to get it dyno tuned...I don't understand...sometime the car runs really nice but other times it doesnt..like today I lost to an rsx type s with intake headers and exhaust..I ran him twice and the second time my car ran harder..could it be the nitrous selonoids? the tune??

BOTTLE PRESSURE.

Dyno tuning doesn't help if you are always changing the strength of the shot.

Don't hook it to a 'hot at all times' 12v source.

.036 and some 1 step colder plugs. Dont know how it is on a focus but on the mustangs we use a ngk tr6 plug and they work well

And even if you do, the burst panel is on the bottle for a reason. I have seen many "my car burnt down from a nitrous bottle" stories, but the reality of it is that it is pretty damn unlikely that you could ever get nitrous to catch on fire. Maybe a burst panel could fail and if you just happened to not have the bottle mounted to anything, the bottle could shoot through the car. Much beyond that is unlikely. I'd bet 90% of "nitrous related" fires are from people who wire stuff up like monkeys.
