from Automotive news DETROIT ? Ford Division is betting the 500-hp GT40 sports car will help revive its deteriorating car sales. A production version of the high-performance Ford GT40 will reach showrooms in limited numbers by June 2003, Ford Division President Jim O?Connor said last week. <hr></blockquote> <blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><hr> thecarconnection.com Ford was mum on where the GT40 will be built, how much it will cost and how many per year it will build. It will be in production, though, with a supplier company/builder by next year. Ford says it plans to put them on sale during its Centennial year, 2003. Sources said the company was leaning toward building just 100 next year to match the company?s Centennial year, while more were possible in subsequent years depending on demand. That nearly guarantees first-year cars will be highly collectible and hard for anyone but Ford brass and dealers to obtain. <hr></blockquote> |

I am sorry, but I find it really hard to believe that Ford would produce only 100 of these cars. How would they go about deciding which dealerships would get one and which ones would not. I think I can safely say you would have about 2000 dealers royally pissed off. Not to mention the fact it can hardly be worth setting up a plant to only build 100 of anything when the set-up is astronomical. The only reason Ford gets by making only 25,000 T-birds a year is because it shares parts with the Lincoln LS and the Jaguar s-type.

Remeber Ford turns 100... Thats why you may only see 100 next year. The year after maybe a few more. Ford wll make cars that dont turn a profit to prove a point, Racing Puma!
Oh ya other cool thing Ford racing already had its 100th Birthday.... its older then Ford Motor Co. |

Well, that upps the value a bit for first year productions, doesn't it. I think that's pretty cool, actually.

$100,000.00 price tag too! I was thinking in the 85 to 90K range would have been more approachable.

My Dealer said (oh those dreaded words). That they have been told they were getting 1 and its already been sold!
He mentioned that they will probably put a 25k price tag on top of the 100k msrp. But he also mentioned that many other dealers will probably add 50k or more. |

Dealers don't know if they're getting one yet. We haven't decided how to allocate them.
Yer dealer should take a pill. |

Thats why i made that disclaimer ^^^^^^^. But he didn't exactly say they were definitely allocated one. But he was guessing due to their size and status as an SVT dealer that they should get 1. Kinda like the deal with the Mini's and how people had deposits at BMW dealers before they assigned which ones would get mini's. I think 100 gt40's would be to much, I understand the history of the car etc., but if you actually think the people that have $100,000 to spend on a car are buying it for speed, history, etc. I am sure people buy brands like Lamborgini, Ferrari for the prestige not for the anyother reason. They will not buy a $100,000 Ford!

Remember, this is a car that in its original form paced with and beat Lamborgini, Ferrari, etc. |

Because they can!! Now obviously this is an over-exxageration, but your totally underestimating what those with money can do. Hmmm lets see, I make a million a year, I already own a Ferrari (classy), a Porsche (racey)... I need something else... Hey. that GT40 looks mean as hell and nobody I know has one... I think that's my next buy!!!! Oh they will sell all 100, we have MANY millionares in these here states. They'll sell 500 if they make that many! Not to mention, that car is the anti-ferrari/porche.. it's opposite.. so it's going to attract those young or young at heart red-blooded americans who just have to much stinking money hehe |
